Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
ya the easiest to use, especially for beginners.

and if you get the trial pro version with as well as the basic, you can create your models in the basic, then use the trial to move it to 3ds MAx format.

Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
Just finished making some modifications to one of the ships.  And for some reason it just screams the name Butterfly to me....not sure why.  Going to classify it a heavy bomber.

Also this is a ship a friend designed initially and together we both made it in to this:
He's calling it the OBS130-B.  Comments, concerns, etc. appreciated.

This is the recommendation on how he wants the engines:

But I would also like to see it this way:

Again any comments are welcome.

Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
they actually started off round before we stretched them out a little.  Before-hand it had been a skinny boxy thing that i though could use a little width.

Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
Just plucked off another on in about 7-10 hours time.  Calling it the Saetyr.  Fast, agile, intercept, fighter, 4 missle banks and 6 laser banks.

In SketchUp, it has only 721 faces, but I'm sure that would double in 3DS Max considering most of that is in the laser turrets.

(Also another one that would make people who texture models cringe.)

Anyhow, comments?

Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
Can you download that program, or did you purchase it?
I'm a huge fan of this sort of stuff.  Nice job with the models

Actually, does anyone know of any good freeware programs like this?

Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
Google made sketchup I think. It's free, but like he said unless you get teh pro version you can't export to a format convertible to FS2.

I'll stick to TS3.2 for my Frankenstein like experiments ;) If I had any real skill I'd use 3dmax 7 or Light Wave7 (giggle)...

Anyway I like the 130-B BUT that front scoop underneath is too outlandish. make it match the contours of the bow so it tapers up and have like a jet intake look instead of an over sized ramjet look (IMHO). Can't draw it but I think you'll get my meaning.

Also not wild about the rear engines BUT overall I am liking it very much!

Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
Any luck with exporting your models and keeping the smoothing groups?
I'd suggest making that fighter have some rounded surfaces though (especially the cockpit). :)

Re: Back With Some New Models (WIPs)
I can export it using the demo pro version over to .3ds, but a far as not making it a nightmare for 3DS, thats a different story.  Would be nice though to have some texturing files for the ship so I can play around with it in FS2.  Give me about a day to convert it over and ill post a link to the finished model for download.   I do request updates that happen to the model though.

BTW, I can try to round some of the edges a bit, but my modeling skills are still a bit newish, so don't expect perfection  :D
