Hello, I searched before hand throughout the forums but did not find anything that had something to do with my problem.

I recently downloaded freespace 2 off the net because I finally got a better computer that can actually handle it. After I finished downloading the game, installed Open AL, downloaed FS2_Open 3.6.9 (launcher was included), I am unable to play the game. Every time I start up the game, configure the launcher (using D3D mode) the game just launches a black screen.

I am completely lost, even after following instructions on how to install and launch this game. Any help you can offer regarding this problem would be much appreciated.

Your problem is probably due to the cutscenes. Did you download them as well?

Also, use OpenGL. It works better.

Sounds like the firewall popup problem.  Under Fetaures tab select list dev tool.  Check run in window.   If something pops up that is your problem.

If you don't have or can't play the cutscenes, you can always disable them from the launcher, under "troubleshooting".
