Technically speaking, as a "true" Gatling gun (fires all barrels in sequence, each barrel is at the same point when fired) this wouldn't be very impressive. Even speaking optimally, the Max RoF of a "true" Gatling gun is limited by:
Distance Traveled per shot = (Circumference of Rotating Barrel)/(Number of firing points)
RoF = (Rotational Speed of Rotating Barrel)/(Distance Traveled per shot)

So this would have to rotate very fast in order to hit the max RoF. You'd be hard-pressed to see a benefit to this weapon.

That being said...

If this were not a "true" Gatling gun, it'd have slightly more potential. It could perhaps fire multiple shots at the same time. It'd be great fun to watch, but not very useful.

IIRC, Gatling guns are used because of one of the main limiting factors in ROF with a single barreled weapon: heat.  The Gatling gun rotates, which allows air to cool the barrels between firing.  If said gun is moving at 400 mph in a fighter while being fired, so much the better.

Gattling is alos used becosue if you have 7 barrels insted of one, each recives 1/7th part of the heat...anyway.


A gattling gun usually fires at 6000RPM's. Slower ones reach 3000, and hte fastest one I know is said to fire at 240000RPM's.

Let's assume the usual ROF. Given that the gun there is composed of 12 barrreled gat guns:

8x8x12 = 768 barrels !!!!!!!!!!

Which would put the rate of fire at...uuum...yikes
