What do you do to make Descent 2 work??? I want to play it again so badly...

use dosbox, its a program that lets you play those old dos games in windows xp!!!

D2x-XL is meant to be played under XP without DoSbox. I want to find the game first because my Vertigo Series disk 1 broke six, seven years ago.

D2 is too demanding for Dosbox. You'll be lucky to get more than 5fps on even the best processors today. On the other hand, there was an official native Windows patch for D2 that works fine on XP, from what I remember. Although it still uses software rendering and is pointless now that we have D2X-XL.

Well I found Descent, got XL working. But I'm not sure why the high resolution textures or models work.

You need the original files, but they were posted somewhere in that thread. I think Ulala had a link somewhere, although I don't remember which page it was on.

Nuke originally posted these files, I believe. I just re-hosted them. Add the latest d2x-xl to them and you should have a working Descent 2 (in theory).

Ok, extracting that gave me the Vertigo campaign, but I still don't have high-res textures. I have the latest version.

Hm, I don't believe I have the high-res textures, only the most necessary game files to get the thing to run.

Well have you looked at the movie that advertises D2X-XL? It shows high resolution pick-up sprites. I can't find them anywhere so I'm guessing they come with XL somewhere.

No, i havent seen any Mods, nor know how to install them for D2\3. Id try em out.

Ok, those links gave me the high resolution textures, unfortunately Descent II crashes now.

Heh, go to the sourceforge bug tracker page for D2X-XL and tell'em about it... but be sure you are using the latest version.  (Currently 1.9.116 on 2/8/7)
