So I saw that a Russian demo for Tarr Chronicles was out, and I wasn't about to let a little thing like not knowing the language stop me. It wouldn't be so bad if it was in actual Russian, which I might have a chance of understanding, but all the text renders as question marks, probably due to it being in Cyrillic. However, thanks to game interfaces being very standardized over the years, and some trial and error, getting to the actual game isn't that hard (as long as you're not concerned about changing options, understanding the mission, customizing loadout etc)
It comes off as a newer, prettier Freelancer/FS2 type game. The physics are non-Newtonian, thank God, sostandard shooter fans should feel quite comfortable. You can select between cockpit and 3rd person views. The in-game UI is normal space shooter fare, so figuring out what's what ( targeting enemies, checking speed, following your wingmen, reaching waypoints) is intuitive. The graphics are pretty sweet - they're not going to give Crysis a run for its money, but they're definitely modern and up to date. Oh, and the style of the cinematics is straight out of Homeworld 1/2.
I really hope they make an English language version of this game. I can't comment on anything other than the graphics and basic gameplay, but from what I've seen it's a polished, professional game. It doesn't feel crappy at all, unlike some recent space sims I could mention (Darkstar One, I'm looking at you). And frankly, that's enough for me.
