Lightwave attacks....
Well, it did it again, although this time it was at least semi-finished.

I had planned on radiositizing it.. ah well...
Only post-processing was the explosion from the Sajuk Cor's beam...
I had planned on adding a light there too, so it loooked like the blast was giving off light...

Nice... real nice.   Some really cool effects could be done if you darkened your ambient lighting and made the lighting from your beams more dramatic, emphasising their power - and the adding of that aforementioned light source at the hit point would be mondo cool.

Man, I've played freespace so much that I've forgotten what Homeworld beams are like.   Good job!

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

WE ARE HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS. YOU WILL LOWER YOUR FIREWALLS AND SURRENDER YOUR KEYBOARDS. WE WILL ADD YOUR INTELLECTUAL AND VERNACULAR DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. YOUR FORUMS WILL ADAPT TO SERVICE US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

I've always considered HomeWorld ships to be utterly lacking in any kind of aesthetic sense, and each HW render I see seems to confirm that. Not a reflection on the render, just a musing on the incredible ugliness of the things... Hecates look good by comparison!

thats awsome, but i didn't think that the HC had such a large firing arc on its ion beams, i thought it was like maybe 120 degrees forward or something

It can fire totally broadside, and then some.

I have always liked the fact that Homeworld ships are much more functional then the ones in the FS games. A single turret can cover most of the ship, while on your average FS ship it takes 4 of them to cover the same area.

i love the loook of those ships.

They have this sortof timeless quality about them...i really like it.

Indeed. Some of Foss's work seems to have inspired Freespace designs--specifically his Dune work. The man's work is gorgeous, and should be required viewing for anyone looking to design spaceships for space games.

It look very massive, as if it could simply overrun everything. I think that's what makes it such a great ship.

Ingame that would be whatever color you wanted it.
Grey is just the base color, I was too lazy to change it....
