Oh, happy days.

I've never found a decent replacement for Elite with that perfect trading/combat balance.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

That's because too many people try to make things happen, it's kind of odd the rumours that sprang up about the Elite universe when the entire content of the game was pretty much random. Modern game companies would try create a database for every ship and make it behave in a 'real' fashion etc. Back then it was more or less 'If RND(100)<2 THEN WitchSpace' every time your ship jumped

wel theres always oolite. its the best elite clone that ive found, its also very easy to mod. started out as an osx project but its been ported to windows and linux.

elite was also good cause at the time there werent many other 3d games to play. theese days i only really play it for nostalgia. the game wasnt perfect but it was good enough.
