I have an interesting missile in mind that can penatrate shields after doing some other interesting things but I don't recall there being a missile_pierce_shields flag so is it possible for something to completely ignore shields and hit the armor directly? This is a special missile that only capital ships use against other shielded capital ships, no fighters will be targeted.
I have created a masterpiece.

The "pierce shields" flag will work on any weapon, including missiles.

But you've just given me an idea.  I'll think I'll add a feature where if a subsystem is destroyed, the shield will no longer function.  So you could launch a tactical shield-penetrating missile against a fighter to knock out its shields. :)

Sounds interesting. :) (The line I striked out, because I'm not too sure and/or fond of the recent power-generation stuff related to subsystems... :doubt:)

What do you mean, "recent"?  Stuff has been linked to subsystems since FS1.  C.f. engines, weapons, sensors, and communications.

Not really sure myself :lol:... just that I've been reading threads related to that. All I remember are a couple of phrases... power generation, power distribution, damaged reactor subsystems on capships will also cause capships to go bonkers in one way or another...

I'll just wait till there's a build with all that subsystem code implemented, see how it all works for myself. :)

But I'm liking that shield penetrator... with subsystem damage and blast radius, you could probably KO a fighter that you need to capture with only one hit... xD

I'd like to see a reactor subsystem that blows you to pieces when destroyed.  Maybe a cockpit subsystem too.

Gonna make a "Shield" subsystem?  :)
I'd like to see a reactor subsystem that blows you to pieces when destroyed.  Maybe a cockpit subsystem too.
With the reactor subsystem, make it so that if it gets within 5% damage, it shuts down, and you're left with whatever power you have in your capacitors (make the engines leech off of the AB energy).  If it gets down to 0, KABLOOEY!  If it's allowed to get repaired, well and good.
