No, I'm on XP SP2.

Ooooh wow.

Thanks muchly - the noise layer technique is brilliant. :D

Managed these so far:

Obviously far from perfect as is, but I'm beginning to get the hang of it now. :)

Bob, can you find anything that may be remotely wrong?

Hmm, now I'm encountering some strange problems - I can't seem to open up complex past workspaces anymore. The program just locks up and nothing happens. (even after allowing for the time it would take to evaluate all the layers). Re-extracting the exe and dlls didn't help either.

I can salvage the data from the lyr files themselves obviously and then rebuild the thing, but once the new one is saved the same thing happens if I try and open it later. I've attached the WKS and LYR files so you can have a look to see if I'm doing something wrong in them.

yeah thats still buggy (I mentioned it probly was) I'll try to have it fixed in a few hours (right now I'm working on bicubic interpolation for resizeing layers, I think I fixed the file loading bug, it had to do with temporary layers, a workaround for the moment would be to make the temp layers normal layers)

ok, I made an update, that loading bug should be fixed now. finaly got the tricubic filtering working too, turns out I just kept feeding it the inputs in the wrong order :doubt:. sampleing is probly going to be even slower that it has been but it'll look better, I'm going to need to make some way of specifying the sample method so you don't have to suffer through longer waiting times when you don't need ubberquality.
I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do much work on this this weekend cause I have a big test in a class I'm not doing so well in monday. but when I do get back to work on it the top priority will be getting that optional filtering thing working, and fixing that stupid 'anything with a major temp layer in it takes five minutes to be deselected' bug.

Awesome - that seems to have done the trick. And I agree about the sampling method setting - the eval times feel like they've nearly doubled. :\

Anyways, I'm still practicing with the red beams, but I really love it how even practice stuff can look quite cool in its own way. :D

What do you mean, try leaving it? It doesn't even try to initialize. :wtf:

This was in another Prox thread from WMCoolmon. Don't know if it will help or not.

Oh - Cobra, we're talking about different things. When Bob mentioned the loading bug he meant where you open previously saved workspaces - not the program starting up.

here is an interesting layer I just made trying to experiment with makeing a solid consistent and controllable electrical effect.

Code: [Select]
$wave[256,256]<HSL>{
@H=0.5
@S=1

@YS=sign(Y)
@SW=(1-abs(0.25*sin(0.6*NB.l(x-t,y)^11+(x+t)*2*PI)-Y))^5
@SWW=100~(tan(-0.25*SW*(NB.l(x,y)^2*NB.l(x,y))*PI)^2*0.2+1)

@L=(tan(SWW-NB.l(x+2*t,y)+PI*1.5)*1.5)^2.3
}<H|S|L>

it makes an electrical arch in the extreemly vague shape of a sin wave.

Didn't get that one to work. Tried NB as both perlin and turbulent. t is for animation ? Is @YS used or am I reading it wrong?

NB should be perlin noise tiled along x then y, YS was used for something but I must have removed that bit and fogot about him.
that is BTW a lyr file, you can tell by it's being one big text layer definition, you can copy and paste it's contents into a new layer, and extrapolate what you need to set things to via the file, or you can just paste the whole thing into a text file (lyr extention) and open it in proximus.
