Though how would you do such extreme speeds, most fighters go far faster than 75 meters per second?
*hits Snail*
It's called GAME BALANCE
And BTW, a dogfight would never happen at Mach 2... it would be around 900 kph --> 250 m/s. Damn! Still too much
And the planes will fly most in space... only few atmospheric missions.
At that speed, you can use efficiently only missiles...
Shiv: I'm a genius.
Ah, but

of fighter pilots still have to close in for gunfights... because you can evade missiles (sometimes relatively easily) When they first used the F-4 in Vietnam, it didn't have a cannon, and the pilots suffered because of it. They eventually added it on. (When will the armchair generals ever learn...

) See, if you somehow (and it happens often enough to count, I guess) end up too close to the target to use missiles, that leaves you with guns. And, IIRC, the speed for most effective maneuvering is 400 mph or thereabouts, right? Of course, the speed varies with the plane. The afterburner is used mainly for quick bursts of power, or to get back up to maneuvering speed when you just pulled a fancy evasive / offensive maneuver that cost you a lot of airspeed. Using it for extended high speed runs makes you run out of fuel in about 10 mins...
DkSkO, how am I doing so far?
