Battlestar Renewed For Season 4

SCI FI Channel announced that it has renewed its Peabody-winning original series Battlestar Galactica, ordering 13 new episodes. Production will resume this summer in Vancouver, Canada, with an eye toward a January 2008 premiere.

The decision comes after the series' successful move to a new 10 p.m. timeslot on Sundays. Since moving, Battlestar Galactica's audience has grown over its third-season average by 8 percent in total viewers, by double digits in female viewers, by 19 percent in the show's target demographic of adults aged 18-49 and by 14 percent in adults 25-54. The Jan. 28 episode, "Taking a Break From All Your Worries," delivered 2.5 million total viewers and 1.6 million adults 18-49, the largest audience for any episode since the season-two premiere.

"We're thrilled to bring Battlestar back for another season," Mark Stern, SCI FI's executive vice president of programming, said in a statement. "This series has delivered on every level, from the writing to the acting to the production values. SCI FI is proud to be the home of the best show on television."

The series is from NBC Universal Television Studio and is executive-produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Its cast is led by Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. Battlestar recently returned with the second half of its third original season, immediately following SCI FI's newest original series, The Dresden Files.

"While we never had any doubt that SCI FI would get behind a fourth season of Battlestar, it's thrilling to finally make it official, and for Ron and I to continue using this great genre to investigate the darker corners of society, politics and humanity," executive producer David Eick said in a statement.

Only 13 episodes confirmed though, natch.  Although presumably this also means the 2 hour movie is also a go.

They should really start working towards a conclusion to the show now. I wouldn't want to see the series die mid run like so many US shows do.
Be warned: This site's admins stole 100s of hours of my work. They will do it to you.

I think (at the point of series 2) it was planned to run - more or less - 5 seasons (IIRC from an interview with David Eick).   Of course, that might change if the season is cut to 13 episodes from 20...

Good news. But I could do withouit the constant mid-season interupptions. Also, I haven't really been thrilled about Season 3, not including the first few awesome episodes.

Presumably Caprica is still in the works, yeah?

The only way to get around that is to hand the series production back to the British, which will never happen because BSG is such a success.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Good to hear. It's probably the show I most want to like on TV at the minute. Unfortunately while seasons 1 and 2 held 'favourite show' without much contest, season three has dropped big time. I just watch s03e14 and I have to say, I thought it was fairly ****. BSG just doesn't seem to be able to do good filler eps anymore.

Regardless of how bad it gets I'll probably watch it right till the end but it's starting to push it a bit.

Oh, and what do you mean by giving it back to the british? Was season 1 done by a brit production company or something? Jebus, if that's the case then with luck they'll do it post haste!

The swear filter is there for a good reason. If you don't like it turn it off. - Karajorma

Well we do get a miniseries/TV movie instead, so it's not all bad. Higher production values ftw.

Season 1 was (at least) part-funded by Sky; that's why it premiered here.

Season 3 has lacked something. Maybe it's the "ragtag fleet waging guerilla war against space killer robots and trying to find a way to a mythical world" part. I want my war and desperation back!
lol wtf
