Ok, over at the VBB some hardheaded whippersnapper is arguing that the Orion in the FS2 intro is the Galatea. Yeah yeah, I know... we've all been through this before.

Did anyone save the actual quote of Adam Pletcher stating that that's not the Galatea?

No, sorry... That was ages ago.

But I did bring up that comment in the thread.

I don't think its even there anymore....but the fact remains that Adam Pletcher did say that the Orion was NOT the Galatea.  I don't remember the name...but it was not the Galatea.

The GTD Galatea was destroyed by the Lucifer in the FS1 mission Doomsday, in Antares, after surviving heavy fire from Shivan bombers. The cutscene in the FS2 intro was the Battle of Deneb.

I remember from the cutscenes in FS1 at that point in the game showed three Orion destroyers in the area. One was the Galatea, the second was the bastion and the third was not named. It was the unnamed third that was in the FS2 intro.

Maybe it was the Intrepid.

How was this established? In-game messages? Command briefing? Debriefing?

you must understand there's not just one or two orions other than the bastion and galatea!  there's the minnnow, the intrepid, and who knows how many... ther'es one in 'every system' if i remember correctly

this was established in-game... you were called in to help defend the galatea which was ambushed by the shivan when you were destroying the 'Eva' (demon class destroyer) then just as it was about to jump out, in jumps the lucifer, and destroys the galatea... it happens in front of your eyes, you're in the mission with it...

I just played FS1 again.  THE Galatea was destroyed in Deneb, not Antares, in the mission after you destroyed the 'Eva'.  In command breifings, it was shown that only two orions were in Deneb: THe GTD Bastion and GTD Galatea.

No no no. Like they said, the Galatea was destroyed after she ejected 6 escape pods. The Lucy came in afterwards and blew her to smithereens along with some 3,000+ crew (escape pods hold surprisingly a lot of people). Then you jumped out, and then you were on th GTD Bastion... and some 32 years later, the Bastion was destroyed by GTVA to seal off the Shivans.

It might have been the Intrepid, but it was absolutley positivley NOT the GTD Galatea.

Its very annoying how some people ignore the facts isnt it? If you finish a game, pay attention to what your doing! The GTVA Fleet had only like.....a guess of 5-8 Orions back then, and if it was the Galatea, the Lucifer jumped in suddenly in the void of space. It wasnt there already fighting others, But the Orion was firing at the other Shivan vessels in the intro, The Galatea was just sitting dead in space with Shivan bombers pounding it.

I believe he's right, I'm going to have to recheck the positions of the Interpid and Minnow before the Galatea was destroyed.

Well, it couldn't have been the Intrepid since THAT's seen in Silent Threat, after the destruction of the Lucifer. (Silence All Voices... stay in the area too long and it jumps in, screaming at you.)

I'm pretty sure it's neither the Intrepid nor the Minnow. Those were in Antares at the time.

We know it was neither the Bastion nor the Galatea. So, it may have been a GTI destroyer that had been classified at the time (therefore not on the CMD briefing map) but had come to help in the battle, only to be blown away by the Lucifer.

The Galatea was in Deneb though.  It was sent with the Bastion to blockade the Deneb-Vasuda Prime node, Intrepid and Minnow Antares-Vasuda Prime.  The Eva was destroyed in Deneb by the Galateas fighters, which would make it so the Galatea must've been in Deneb.  So I still think that it's the Galatea.

I don't think it was specified what system the Galatea was in when you went to assist her.

If the good admiral had any sense, he would have turned that ship around and try to run for friendlier skies or towards more help.

Simply put, yes the mission is important, but you can't fullfill the mission if bombers waste your ship before you get there.

Personally I don't know why the Galatea was sent off with no ESCORT!
