Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
Hello,
I compiled 3.6.9 RC8 on Kubuntu Linux 32bit.

I start it like that:

Code: [Select]
./fs2_open_RC8 -spec -glow -jpgtga -mipmap -missile_lighting -dualscanlines -targetinfo -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -3dwarp -warp_flash -snd_preload -env -alpha_env -mod mediavps/

Now when I put mv_adveffects.vp in the mediavps-folder, there is no fog in space, its all black  :(

Any ideas?

PS: sorry, my english sucks

Uhm... You mean the background-Nebulars, right?
Or do you mean the Nebular-Missions?

Yes, I mean the background-Nebulars! When I remove both mv_adveffects.vp and mp-710_adveffects.vp I have the "old" background-Nebulars from the original game....

Edit: Hmmm I want to try the stable tag with

cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/home/fs2source/cvsroot login
cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/home/fs2source/cvsroot co -r fs2_open_3_6_9 fs2_open

But I dont know the password  :shaking:

Re: Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
As far as I remember, the Password consists of only one key...

With other words: Just hit Return (Enter) ;)

EDIT: Oops... Sorry... It's been a long time since I've done this the first time ;)

http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Fs2_open_on_Linux#Using_the_source tells me, that the password is also "anonymous" (VERY hard to guess ;) ).

Oh... I almost forgot...
By the way...
:welcome: :D

Re: Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
Thanks  ;)

when I use "anonymous" as password I got

cvs [login aborted]: connect to warpcore.org(82.165.252.33):2401 failed: Connection refused

I see...so...any ideas about the missing background-Nebulars?

Re: Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
I have an idea but since I don't have mv_adveffects installed on my PC I have no easy way to check if I'm correct.

What I suspect might be happening is that mv_adveffects.vp has a copy of the FS2 missions fixed to use Lightspeed's nebulae. Since you don't have these you get no nebulae at all. The solution is simply to download those nebulae but I don't have a link where you can get them from.

I might be completely wrong but grabbing the nebulae isn't a waste of time as other campaigns use them too.

Re: Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
OK, I now tried the stable tag cvs but no background-nebular at all  :drevil:

Other problems:

1. Cant start the game with "-jpgtga" ->
Code: [Select]
Unrecognized command line parameter "-jpgtga".  Exiting...
-> No need for it anymore?

2. On some targets the "target display" (dont know how to name it otherwise -> See bottom left on the screenshot...) is empty...maybe for the same reason as the background-nebular?

Hm are any files missing? I installed the CD-Version, created a folder named "mediavps" and put the following files into it:

mp-710_adveffects.vp, mp-710_effects.vp, mp-710_models.vp, mv_adveffects.vp,
mv_core.vp, mv_effects.vp, mv_models.vp, mv_music.vp, mv_textures.vp

I attached a screenshot to show u....

Someone give this guy a link to the nebula VP! I can never remember where that is stored.

Also try getting a fresh CVS checkout for the stable branch, I just committed fixes for a bunch of things.

So not my fault at all?

PS: Any plans when to release 3.6.9 Final for Linux??

Edit: OK, the missing nebula's -> my fault! I don't know why but I downloaded all files again and now my nebula's are back  :D

I only need to know why I cant use "-jpgtga" in the CVS-Version because I wrote a German guide for fs2open and a few people already asked me about it...

Re: Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
-jpgtga isn't needed anymore and so it has been removed...

(english again):
I think that jpg- and tga-files get loaded automatically now (not shure) when no DSS-files are found that would fit...

BTW:

-------------------------------------------------
English:

Another question: In the download-version, mv_adveffects got its own folder...does that matter for the "-mod"-option?

for example: when I use "-mod mediavps" and mv_adveffects.vp got its own folder (/mediavps/mv_adveffects) -> will mv_adveffects be loaded?

--------------------
German again:

wenn ich das spiel mit "-mod mediavps" starte, werden dann auch alle Unterordner mitgeladen?

Re: Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
The basic idea is that if you want mv_adveffects (you may not, it's a resource hog) you simply move it into your main mediavps folder. :)

You could have a mediavps directory and a mediavp_adv directory, and then launch fs2 with ./fs2_open -mod mediavps -mod mediavps_adv, with mv_adveffects.vp located in the mediavps_adv dir.

And also, Linux users are not allowed to call directories "folders"... :)

I'm actually rather annoyed that Windows use has finally got me doing that and thinking it's normal rather than the ridiculous aberration I used to think it was. :D

Re: Linux: No fog when using mv_adveffects.vp
Note that using 3.6.9 you REQUIRE mp-710_adveffects to use the mp_adveffects.

See the top of the first post here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html

Of course that may have NOTHING to do with your specific issue though.... I'm a newbie around these parts.
