My e-mail account has gotten a large increase in spam lately.  Normally, I would just create a new one and notify everyone on my list that my address has changed.  Unfortunately, due to some recent difficulties, that isn't an option right now.  I need a free spam filter that can be told to block e-mails from specific addresses.  The problem is that the spam mails all have the same address, yet my current spam filter doesn't block them, despite my categorizing them as spam.  This just needs to be a temporary fix.

Any suggestions?

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

I have a friend who uses Incredimail and swears by it, but I dunno the details... besides the fact that Incredimail is basically a modified version of Outlook Express.

I hate Incredimail. Fancy smilies and other garbage everywhere, I know instantly when I receive email from an Incredimail user at work. Makes me want to blacklist every one of them.

Go with Thunderbird, it has built-in spam filter.

Yeah, I know... that's my friend, though.  :)
I use webmail x 4 :D
Yahoo! (Beta)
Hotmail (Windows Live! Mail)
Gmail
AIM Mail
I don't have a problem with spam... well, lately, I've been getting extremely weird messages in my Spam folder on Yahoo.  (Of course, since they are in my Spam folder, no probs...) They appear to be semi-intelligible gibberish about mostly everything in general and nothing in particular, with an attachment... all from different users.  I have my security settings to not display pictures unless I tell it to, so this doesn't affect me, but I do wonder :wtf: is going on...

Thunderbird FTW.  You'll never go back.

Thunderbird has a webmail extension that allows it to access Hotmail, Yahoo, etc etc.  Natively, it requires your email to have POP/IMAP functionality.

The extension is available off the Thunderbird Extensions page.

In the case of yahoo, or at least the .co.uk webmail, you can use the smtp / pop servers.  pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk (port 110) and smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk (port 587) specifically.  There was a point a while back where it went very flaky and you couldn't get anything that way, but it works perfectly now.

I think you have to pay for "legit" pop and smtp access for .com mail.

GMail rocks. Spam filters are second to none. And, they're rolling out this feature where it can check emails from other POP3 accounts, so they can all be checked for spam by Gmail. :yes2:

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I only wish the spam section didn't get bold when you get spam. Sort of like how Yahoo reports; You have 1 new message and 1843904809q84i3oj4q3948093q8473q408340######### spam messages.

There's probably some filter you can set up to mark spam as read.
