Thank you very much for the info.  Thankfully, I haven't been giving my girls anything on that list, but I could hardly breathe reading through it.  If Nutmeg wasn't so prone to hairballs that she needs special food to prevent them, I'd have been giving them half a dozen of those brands depending on what was on sale.  (gulp)

I'm going to send links to those lists to all the other animal lovers I know, and I request everyone else here do the same.  I had two cats that eventually had to be put to sleep because they were in horrific pain from kidney failure.  Towards the end before I finally gave in and took him to the vet to be put to sleep, Ptolemy crawled onto my lap and just started moaning pitifully.

My cat is a good enough hunter that he eats mainly the unlucky prey animals in our neighborhood (we believe he actually killed our neighbors' pet rabbit. I think they think so too, but they haven't pressed charges or anything, thankfully).

My other cat, though... can't hunt at all. So she's lucky her cat food isn't on the list.

Don't panic just yet.  Just grab some Purina or something for time being and keep an eye out on her for a time.  The most common side effects of kidney disease is going often or in large volumes (i.e. peeing a lot a lot), or becoming more lethargic than usual.  If you're really worried, just give your vet a call--I'm sure you won't be the first to do it.

NVM she only eats dry food. Wet food is effected, not dry.

They discovered it was rat poison that somehow got into the food that was causing kidney failure in dogs and cats.

Well, all that matters is that the word got out quickly, and people did what they could to keep their pets safe.  You wouldn't believe the number of IAMS bags that the trashmen had to come for just in our neighborhood alone.

I really do feel bad for the owners of the ten that died, though.  No pet should have to suffer from that sort of negligence.

Agreed, I lost a Siamese to Liver Failure once, though he was about 16 years old, which isn't bad for a Pedigree cat (pure-breeds are more susceptible to problems normally) it's never nice losing a pet.

I don't do too bad on animals though, the moggy I've got at the moment is 19, though, in all honesty, I severely doubt he's going to get to 20.

Well I did the contrary. I named a Hecate and its Admiral using names coming straight from...my dogs.

I don't do too bad on animals though, the moggy I've got at the moment is 19, though, in all honesty, I severely doubt he's going to get to 20.
