Plz read if you know anything about Colds!
Sunday evening I felt a roughness in my throat, I knew something was coming.

Monday I had a sore throat all day, but nothing else.

Yesderday everything hit me. I had mild sinus pressure, fatigue, nasal drainage/runny/congestion, and a sore throat that was getting better.

Last night i had chills, nasal congestion, and worsening sinus pressure. My sore throat had only a touch left though.

Right now on 8:30 Wednesday morning, I have EXTREME sinus pressure (my head feels like its going to asplode), and nasal congestion. Thats it though, i dont feel fatigued and my sore throat totally went away.

The question is, when do you think I will be totally over this cold? Is friday afternoon realistic?

I think unfortunately, it's totally random how long a cold can last.  Sounds possible, though; usually the bit when you start coughing is past the worst IMO.

For me the runny/blocked nose always comes last. Once I hit that stage I know it's mostly over except for the incredible irritation of having to carry round and use a box of tissues a day. And yeah that would include some coughing. Not because of the sore throat but again because of all the lovely mucus.

Lovely.

Unless of course you have one of those re-occuring cold's, the type that you just think you're over the worst and only have a sniffle left and then BANG, the next day you feel like crap again.!   :sigh:

If you start to feel a burning sensation in your sinuses, then you've got an infection and you'll need to see a doctor.

Re: Plz read if you know anything about Colds!
The immune system takes between 7 and 14 days to clear an active novel infection.  The symptoms you are experiencing are not cold/flu symptoms themselves, but actually your body's reaction while it fights the virus (presumably it's a virus).  Symptoms usually disappear a few days before the body clears the infection.

So in a word, no.  It's not realistic to think it'll be gone by Friday afternoon.

The infection has probably moved to your sinuses, so that's where the immune response is heaviest.  I'd suggest taking something with psuedo-ephedrine in it - this causes the sinuses to flush themselves and will help you get rid of the remaining infection a little faster (that, and you'll feel better).  Advil Cold and Sinus contains pseudoephedrine and helps a headache, or you can just grab some Sudafed.  Make sure you follow the directions, and keep taking the meds for a full day after you no longer feel sick.

I'm taking Actifed. Isnt that basically Sudafed + Antihistamine?

I dont really care when the infection is cleared, I just want to know when the runny nose and sinus pressure will go away. (the only two symptoms i have now). My sinuses are a bit milder now, but my runny nose is still going full force.

I've been recommended whisky with a spot of honey as a good cold-helper.

The only significant effect alcohol has on the immune system is as an immune suppressor.  So it may (and that's a very qualified may) reduce your symptoms, but it sure as hell isn't going to help you get better :)

I'm not familiar with Actifed.

And there really is no way to predict when your symptoms will go away.  If they haven't disappeared two weeks from when they first appeared, go see a doctor.
