(I hope THIS is in the right topic)

In Inferno: Alliance, I get the thrusters looking like the ones in this screenshot I made. How can I extract the files for them out of INF:A and into 'normal' FSO so I get them like in the screenie?

you'll need a tool called vpview32 for starters. look for karajorma's FAQ.

Ew, Vasudan thrusters on an Apollo?

I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

*makes note to include more information next time*

I already have VPview and know what files go where, I would just like to know what files I will need to extract (or download) to be able to use these thrusters out of INF:A.

And no, those are not Vasudan thrusters, they are Terran afterburners (I took a screen of them so they'd be easier to see.).

I don't know Inferno, but I'd assume it'd be thruster01.ani and thruster01a.ani.

However, if Inferno uses .eff, it'll be thuster01.eff, thruster01a.eff, thruster01_00**.* (all of them), and thruster01a_00**.* (all of them).

Only the retail type modelled thruster cones use animations. Standard glow type effects (which we see in pic) are just basic image files (preferably dds). You can see the used grpahics files either in species_defs.tbl or in ships.tbl (which may contain overrides for the species_defs.tbl entries. You can get these into the game by either just copying the required graphics files into <name of the mod>/data/effects/ and making sure they override (have same name as) the normally used graphics. Or you can name them as you wish and use species_defs.tbl and/or ships.tbl to define the file names for the game.

Species_defs.tbl did the trick. Thanks.

The INFA people made the Vasudan afterburners the Terran afterburners. Nothing to do with me.
