After some of the varied sites I've seen over my Internet lifetime, I'm not so sure that they aren't wiser than us all...

with the new wave of kiddie internet culture pissing me off, blog sites replacing personal web space, overly intrusive marketing, scams, and spam that tells me my penis is gonna fall off if i dont buy there probibly illigal enhancement drugs, im starting to wonder if the internet is worth the bill. if it wasnt for piracy, i dont think id even have the internet.

Well, yeah, when they have those things called encyclopedias, telephones, and next-door neighbors, you wonder what anyone really needs the Internet for.

Being totally serious here too.  In a really odd comparison, the internet's ability to connect people around the world instantly is probably one of the reasons that people become so isolated and individualistic.

I'm sure it's one of the reasons, but probably not the biggest. The trend of modernity as a whole has been to push people into a greater and greater isolation. The internet didn't invent the hermit, it just made it easier to be one and still keep in contact with people. For a great many folks, the internet was actually a life-saving bridge out of personal isolation.

To each their own. The biggest affect of the internet as a whole that I've seen is that it's sped up life even faster. For those people who are content enjoying a slower pace, I tip my hat, and my sympathies will go out to them as their world shrinks smaller and smaller.

Wikipedia, MSN/AOL/heck, even VoIP, forums.

Wikipedia is larger than your average encyclopedia. MSN/AOL have more features than a telephone, VoIP services obviously need the Internet to operate, and forums allow you to talk with people who are smarter than your next-door neighbour, or allow you to insult people who are dumber than your next-door neighbour.

The Internet allows you to pursue your interests.
Interestingly enough, this signature is none of the following:
A witty remark on whatever sad state of affairs the world may or may not be in
A series of localized forum in-jokes
A clever and self-referential comment on the nature of signatures themselves.

Wiki is also the best place to go if you want bad information.

Wiki= good for getting a general idea
Encyclopedia=Near completely rock solid stuff.
