We've done render and models b4. This IS a game mod site right???

Why in the hell haven't we done a mission contest yet?

Seriously...I mean I can't make the best mission (lol I'm not even a mission designer in my own campaign   Just story layout)

but I just had the thought,..I mean why not? I know of of ppl that are killer at mission design,..but not modeling or rendering.

So what's everyone think?

i think its a great idea.

I dont really have a clue how many battles i want to portray would be fought so it would be an excellent idea to encourage people that do.

Well, we'll wait for the model contest to finish first, but we could do a mission contest in april or may.....

Oh yes I didn't mean anytime soon by far. A good mission could take a month to design and test and layout and such anyways.

I'd say do it in two groups possibly.

Modded Missions and standard. Or just standard.

Well, if you want my opinion, I think just standard missions would be much easier to handle.  

Either that, or we agree on a single set of mods that everyone can use for their missions, so everyone is on the same footing.

I'd say stick with standard, too. Also, there'd be 2 problems with having MODded missions:

- Selecting who'd be the lucky people to have their MOD's in the list.
- Many people are working on custom campaigns with their own .TBL files, etc - having another set of MODs would just confuse the issue

It wouldn't be as easy for most people to judge missions as it is renders. Renders you just look at it and say wow, or erm... not so wow, butmissions you actually have to play through and ugh

How about a ship contest entry? Basically, take the model contest and integrate it with a modding contest-in other words, you make the model but you also get points for how balanced the model is in-game and how professional it looks.
EDIT: A little more
For example, say one person entered an extraodinarily optimized model; however, it loses to another model that's only medium in terms of how it looks-but it is much more balanced and has all the loading and in-game icons. Comments?

For the possible mission contest, let's not just have one single winner - give different categories, like in the Grammys.  
Best use of:
- dialog
- Briefings
- plot
- 3D space
- believability
- etc...

And the more I think about it, the more strongly I feel that it should be without any MODs whatsoever; we know that everyone can run FS2, but some people have trouble getting certain MODs to work, etc.

One other thing is that once we get the forums converted to vB, we'll have the ability to have real polls, which will make things easier.  

One thread each for the different categories, with the poll having each mission as a voting option.

Well, we could also have the awards kind of thing for lousy missions and stuff. You know...they always have that kind of things...forgot the name of that awards ceremony...

Anyway, I would love to have a missions contest. I love creating missions in FRED2.

Well, I for one have no problem with modded missions- as long as the mod is simple enough to be easily packaged with the mission. Adding your favorite fighter? Fine. Making a TBL tweak? Fine. As long as the guy running the mission doesn't have to do anything more than drag&drop files, I'm all for it.

I'd say unmodded is easier...

although you can pretty much use a common mod set (in a VP file), and share it amongst anyone wanting to use it for missions.

(I have a slight personal interest in this, as I've not yet really played any full missions - bar 1- with any of my mods, beyond simple testing ones - useless at FREd ya see)

If mods are allowed, then this is probably some of my better work. The mods here are more for play-balancing and stuff like that though.
