I'm back... what'd I miss?
I really should be introducing myself as a new member of the board... although given that a number of you have played my campaign, and are still talking about it all these years later... it almost feels like I'm returning home.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know, I'm one half of the design team that put the original Derelict campaign together... at least as far as Fred2 and the storyline were concerned... needless to say, I've been away for a while...

If you're wondering what I've been up to, I've been through two different job positions, and am in a new one now that I thoroughly enjoy. I got married, I have a 16 month old daughter who takes up a lot of my time... :)

Anyway, I plan on hanging out here, as well as re-acquainting myself with Freespace2... Gotta go buy a new joystick and download the SCP game. :)

Re: I'm back... what'd I miss?

new guy called hip63 is making a dvd version of freespace 2 scp (all in his first week).

:jaw: they always come back...

While you were out: The SCP kept owning more and more. Blaise Russel and Ransom created some absolutely awesome campaigns. There was a hostile takeover by an0n (April Fool's joke). Derek Smart tried to make FS3 (not a joke). Derelict got revamped and voice-acted. BWO and MT still aren't done yet.

Not much happened, only that it was discovered that Snipes was actually Petrarch's long lost son.

Re: I'm back... what'd I miss?
I'm actually looking forward to playing my own campaign with the full voice acting. I remember writing up much of the script and dialogue, although I am curious to see how someone else interprets it. I did try to make room for the sound files when I did the original campaign, but the sheer energy that goes into voice acting because a task that I didn't have time for back then. Most of the voices for the original five missions I did for myself...

I'm curious as to what has become the favorite missions from the Derelict campaign. I know what mine are, but I am curious as to what others think... ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

You know we're not going to rest until you re-voice Mackie for the entire campaign. :D

Ooh... I may have to play the campaign again just to narrow them down. :D

Off the top of my head, I think the most "holy crap, this is awesome" mission was the not the last one but the second-to-last: the mission where you blockade Beta Aquilae and destroy the Cthon.  Lots of fighting, explosions, and bombs; plus an amazing plot twist.

Mine was definitely the one where you're on sleep shift and the guy who disappeared a few weeks ago returns, although the final actual mission was very bloody good as well.

Well, the mission where you are with the lonewolf and you get to the pirate depot which has already been destroyed, then you have to protect the escort ship -- that's a total pain in the keester.  I really like playing Rites of Passage, though.  Tons of carnage.

Re: I'm back... what'd I miss?
Oh man, there were so many great ones in that campaign.

Defending the Phi Eridani jump node
Scanning the Shivan fleet in the nebula
The last two missions

I just finished playing it though again and there are at least another half a dozen missions just as good at those that I don't remember.

Re: I'm back... what'd I miss?
The riot mission. My absolute favorite.

Leave Mackie's voice alone. Ransom did an excellent job with him, and I would hate to see his voice changed.

Re: I'm back... what'd I miss?
- Luxor Station and the random chaos in the area, just cause I love large battles when they're well done.
- The last two missions, for the same reason.
- The defending-the-Cypher mission. I actually saved the GTD Ignatius on one occasion (4% hull), when the Nyarlathotep's beams failed to trigger. Took out the Nyogtha and Tulzcha too.
- "Wake up, sleepyhead!" Instant classic. :D
- For some reason, I just like Wayfarer Station. The idea of a random aggregate station just appeals to me somehow.
