FTP as in I-forget-what-the-acronym-is-vitally-important-for-uploading-anything FTP. FTP as in the evidently very old program that has served me with mediocrity for years, only to go kaput just when I have stuff worth the server space.

I think my account's buggered... can't tell though, every time I attempt some exploratory work it locks up (which is perfectly normal, I've gotten into the habit of doing my work in 5-to-15-minute installments even on computers with fully operational apps). I think I'll just rage at it some more (out loud, at 12:40 at night), then go off to bed and find it not working again tomorrow, and so on until I forget it ever DID work... and in a year or so it will suddenly be fine.
