You know how Wikipedia and similar projects have a little "do you know that..." section on their main page? It'd be nice if Hard Light wiki had something similar, just with real trivia, not stupid random facts. What do you think? And what FS trivia should we add? I'll start us off.

- The "Apollo" pictured in the FS1 introduction cutscene is actually a modified version of the in-game Apollo. Its gun mounts are slightly different and off-center, among other changes. Perhaps :V: placed the Apollo's gun mounts closer to the centerline for the sake of playability. According to the FS1 reference bible, the Apollo in the intro cutscene is a "Terran bomber".
- The PVFR Bast is the least-used ship in Freespace. It only appears once in the whole game, in the second FS1 combat mission. If you fail to destroy it, it will carry over into the next mission, Avenging Angels.

- You can target your own bomb using the target-object-in-reticle key. Your target display will show video from the bomb's seeker.

Sooner or later we will run out of things to say. Remember that the FS universe is only limited to two computer games. Wikipedia can afford to daily change elements in their "Did you know that?" because they practically have an endless amount of interesting info to say.

You could target Shivans in the first Shivan missions in FS1 by targetting your wingmen, and then pressing the "see target's target" key (sorry, I don't remember the key ).

Are you looking also for things like the following: Valkyrie is a name used for a real Mach 3 strategic bomber that never entered service (XB-70), Pegasus is a name assigned to a prototype UAV-UCAV (X-45, IIRC), Rockeye is a name assigned to a cluster bomb (Mk 20 - CBU-59), and Phoenix is a name assigned to an air-to-air missile (AIM-54) that had a long range exactly like the FS1 Phoenix.

• In FS1 Cutscene 'Hallfight,' the captured Shivan vessel is called 'Freighter,' but it's actually an Azrael transport.
• NTF wings were originally called "Corsair", etc.
• Admiral Khafre's name was originally Admiral Heset
• Sentry 04 in 'Place of Chariots' is assigned the cargo "Unable To Scan"
• The TC-TRI cargo containers carried by Capricorn wing in "The Romans Blunder" are friendly.
• The GTI Ganymede is never used in-game.
• The Ganymede in FS2 Cutscene 'Colossus' is several times bigger than normal.
• The Lucifer in FS2 Cutscene 'Colossus' is smaller than normal.
• The Chronos freighters in FS2 Cutscene 'Colossus' have two turrets (as opposed to the usual one)
• The Chronos freighters in FS2 Cutscene 'Colossus' were either much smaller or the TTC 1 cargo much bigger

When working on FreeSpam 1, I noticed that Vasudan wings in FRED (FSPort missions) are named "Copper", "Steel", "Iron" and other materials. Maybe wanted to use a different naming convention, like in NTF's case?

The GTI Ganymede is never used in-game

It's used in official multi missions.

About the Apollo in the FS1 Intro? You say it is called a Terran bomber? Well it does seem to be a two seater, if you look carefully there does seem to be a dead co-pilot behind Lt Ash!

But the Phoenix V had a longer range than any other FS1 missiles, so that could be the FS1 version of the AIM-54 Phoenix (obviously, the FS2 version is the Trebuchet, but I think its name is derived from the long-range siege weapon of Middle Age).

Oh, I forgot that also the Harpoon is a real missile (AGM-84, IIRC). Though this time the name seems not to be related to its real life counterpart (for those who don't know, the AGM-84 Harpoon is an anti-ship missile).

Actually, also the Rockeye seems not to be related with its real life counterpart, and there are no confirmation that the Phoenix V was named after the AIM-54 for its long range.

Random Trivia: If you export the Artemis POF to COB, you can see that the main object is called "herca", suggesting that it was an early concept for the Hercules Mk II.

You can see the resemblance to the original Herc, mostly on the underside of the "missile pods".

They were. In fact, if you look at the FS2 trailer you will see a weapon labeled "Sidearm". The trailer showed FS2 in its primitive form, so you can spot a lot of things like that.

It's actually very plausble that the GTVA had a bigger, two-seater version fo the Aploo with a far greater missile capacity for bombing action.

that said, are we sure that the original Apollo wasn't a two-seater? I mean, cockpits are black you cna't see inside them with stock models, and FS fighters are ratehr big, bigger than fighters we have today. Fitting two people in looks easy enough.

But it's a bit overkill to have a 120 km-range missile in FS... You could disarm enemy warships far before their escort fighters can reach you.
