CD/DVD Drive Troubles
Quote
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

It's a CD/DVD drive that isn't working properly.  I've tried re-installing the drivers and disabling then re-enabling the device.

Any ideas?

Try
1. Shutting down the computer, unplugging the IDE and power cord to the cd/dvd drive
2. Star the Computer (Without the Drive plugged in)
3.Shut Of the computer then plug it in again
4. Start the computer and see if it works

By the way what is the name of the Cd/DVD Drive and are you running Windows XP or Vista

Re: CD/DVD Drive Troubles
check master/slave settings (unless it's SATA or SCSI), other than that, do you have any wierd things, like drive emulators (e.g. daemon tools)?

Re: CD/DVD Drive Troubles
Yes and also make sure that you havent connected a HDD on the same IDE-Cable as the CD/DVD, not sure if this would produce this error but it would seriously lower the performance of the HDD

Re: CD/DVD Drive Troubles
This is most likely a corrupted driver.  The drive is hooked up properly and stuff.  I checked all that out.

I really just need a way to uninstall the driver that actually uninstalls it, as the "uninstall" function in device manager seems to do nothing more than disable the device and remove it from the list.

XP btw

Re: CD/DVD Drive Troubles
Ok well if you find a driver on the manufactures webpage you can just replace the old one otherwise if you havent tried what I said above try it since windows will reinstall the drive at the second reboot and then you can choose another drive (this normally works for me).

@Scuddie: Yes it would since the HDD has a much higher transfer rate then a CD/DVD and IDE interface is parrallel and so the main bus on the chipset must adjust to the speed of both drives on the same cable, therefor if oyu have one fast HDD and one slow CD/DVD working at the same time the HDD will be slowed down by the CD/DVD.

So what you really want to do is just use SATA, the cables are smaller also

EDIT: Ok did some reading and I might not have been entierly correct about the speed, there is a speed impact but not for the reason i remebered but for something called "One Operation at a Time" read about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT_Attachment

Re: CD/DVD Drive Troubles
Hmm, one more thing to try if nothing else is working:  Boot into Safe Mode (F8 while starting) and check your Device Manager, uninstall all drivers for that drive.  Sometimes you get "ghost" drivers that don't show up during a normal start.

Re: CD/DVD Drive Troubles
Well, a driver re-install fixed it.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
