Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
The xbox360 is such a nice console i was actually debating buying one since most of the games for x360 are also coming out for computer as well. Unfortunately getting an x360 would not get me fsscp. I've essentially turned my computer into a console anyway. But i like my computer a lot better.
Tomorrow war seems kick ass, so does eternal silence. I mean whatever happened to just wanting to get a space shooter? Usually fs is the only way to go, but when it comes to other things, all you get is great space shooters that are only mmo's or something. And mmo's just suck. Something that's not an mmo, and something that's more than just a multiplayer game. I do highly enjoy single player campaigns, and i don't do much multiplayer. I'll definitely be doing fs multiplayer when the multiplayer for it gets a little easier which it is. And honestly the X series of games of space shooters looks so ****ing cheesy i don't even want to see a demo download page.

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
The X series of games aren't too bad actually, it's just you have to spend hours buliding up your empire, exploring different systems and upgrading your ship and the combat element isn't too good.

Another game to check out is Hardwar. Based on the moon of Titan, you fly a solar powered "Moth" around which you can upgrade and is similar to the X-series of games, but instead of systems, you have different domes connected by tunnels. You can salvage scrap to sell on, buy and sell things and be a pirate/privateer or a bounty hunter, (what you choose to be at the start of the game gives you a moth with differing capabilities). It's an old game, not really that great on graphics but it is passable but the best bit is there are free downloads available on the internet (minus any cutscenes).

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
That's another thing i forgot. I really dont want to have to raise my own empire in a space shooter either. I guess this is just another one of the unique aspects of space shooters, most of them are raise your own empires type of stuff, if it not being an mmo and being the same thing.
For me the whole raising you're own empire mixed with the awesome shooting up of unreal tournament 2004 just doesn't mix right. That'd be like imagining unreal tournament 2004 but you could raise you're own empire in it...somehow.
I think i'm just not an imperial ruler at heart :P

I agree with S-99 - I just want to shoot things, not build up a financial consortium. There should be more games like FS2, where I actually blow enemies up, instead of buying them out. :D

Heh, I noticed the irony as i wrote it. Seemed quite fitting.

Been playing through FS port difficulty set to hard, im at the Black Omega mission now, been fun so far, but i do miss beam weapons, theres no decent capital ship fighting in FS1. I played the first 5 missions on the "insane difficult", tis bloody hard, had to turn it down the notch. Whats it like completing it on insane?

Me too. How about something I just invented: A nice single player campaign, but at certain branches in the story, you have to go online and earn kills or points or other stats. Then you take those statistics back into the single player adventure, and proceed along whichever branch you've earned.

A noob question... do the graphical enhancements of FS2open work on the main campaign, or only on mods made for it?

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
Graphical enhancements should work as long as you have the Media VPs activated via the mod section of the launcher or via a mod.ini file.

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
so THAT'S how you do that.

How would one make a mod.ini?

I was wondering why the main campaign looked so bland compared to FSPort...
Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade
To write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky!

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
FSPort used a mod.ini to get mediavps effects.  For the main campaign, just select 'mediavps' as your mod.  And, if you want to make your own mod.ini, of course, DySkO has the link for you.

What the hell is this idea? I was just talking about a game at it's most classic being. A great single player campaign also where the game features multiplayer. Then again i did like one thing which was sort of the opposite you were talking about man.

The opposite is where you have to play the single player campaign, and through this is the only way to get upgrades and power-ups to customize your vehicle, ship, mecha, in multiplayer. I liked this idea when the game Axis featured it. You played as a mecha you could build and swap out parts and customize your weapon loadout, it was a fast paced first person shooter utilizing the x, y, and z axises. Anyway, in order to get more parts and weapons for you mecha in multiplayer, you had to play the single player, and after you won each round, the mecha that you defeated you get its part and weapons that you can customize on your mecha in single and multiplayer. Anyway it worked out great. That was actually a game i liked the multiplayer a lot more than the single player.
