My Trigger Finger is Itchy...
...And I need to scratch it.

Does anyone know of a good first person stealth game for the PC, in the same venue of the old Thief series?  I've done some looking but the genre seems to be fading...

In the absence of a stealth game, an FPS would be nice.

Can anyone make a recommendation?  Thanks! :D

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

Haven't played them myself, but I'm told the Hitman games can involve quite a bit of stealth if you choose to play a sneaky assasin type instead of a kill-em-all rambo type.

Like Shade said, you should try the Hitman series. I dont know many games in that genre but for FPSs, try something like Chrome.

Re: My Trigger Finger is Itchy...
Hmm...I looked in my local game stores about a week ago, and didn't see Chrome (I think it's too old, which is too bad, as I really liked the premise I got from their site; very Serenity-esque).  Same for Hitman, although I think I couldn't find it because of its popularity...  My local EB and Gamestop aren't great about keeping their stock up...

Re: My Trigger Finger is Itchy...
The first three Splinter Cell games, particularly Chaos Theory. They're similar to the Thief series but actually better in several ways. Don't bother with Double Agent though, which is a buggy and unoptimized console port.

Re: My Trigger Finger is Itchy...
I'm downloading Chrome's demo now.  Hopefully, it'll keep me busy for a bit.  I've played the console version of Splinter Cell (the first one, I think), and it was alright.  I might have to check out the more recent ones.

Deus Ex is pretty good. While it's not quite complete stealth, it's not complete shoot-em-up either.

^^ Most definitely. Everyone should play Deus Ex at least once.

Google up Urban Terror, and also Tremulous, and finally Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (NOT Wolfenstein: Return to Castle Wolfenstein).  All of these games are free & open-source, as well as being of excellent quality IMHO.

Yeah, I liked it too. Nothing quite like swinging across a level with the grapple-hook.

I liked that myself, in particular the way it handled jumpjets, which for some reason seemed to match much better my expectations of how those should be handled.

Re: My Trigger Finger is Itchy...
well, when it comes to stealthing, i always go to Metal Gear Solid, of which 1 and 2 are available on PC.  but they're more enjoyable on the ps2 if you got them, and you can skips 2's colossal install...its like 8 gigs!

still, good sneaking games and great epic, over the top plots.

or get a ps2 and play MGS3... i think its the best so far.

Re: My Trigger Finger is Itchy...
another vote for tribes vengance irrational games are great storytellers imho

ps: the chronicles of riddick has its fair share of stealth bits dont let the movie tie in put you off unlike most ties ins this isnt a quick cash in sucky game suprisingly iy rocks
read some reviews:
heres one from gamespot

"the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is an excellent hybrid of first-person shooting, adventure and RPG elements, stealth and combat. What's even more impressive is that Vivendi Universal Games and Starbreeze were able to put a creative, original game out that's not been created in a movie box, like so many other awful games based on licenses. The equal blend of game elements is superbly crafted, and I am honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed the stealth and hand-to-hand combat."
