Silent Threat (non-FS story setting)
Silent Threat (which bears no resemblence with the FS add-on). This story has nothing to do with Freespace or the GTVA, I just wanted to hear your opinions.

Silent Threat

Eons ago in a distant galaxy, a humanoid race stumbles across a small strange creature laying on the ground. The person picked it up for examination, but the darkly coloured creature pierced his skin and entered his body. Just as the man lost consciousness he had a strange feeling in his head and realises that the creature is a parasitic entity that has taken him as a host. The parasite takes its host back to the host's camp and infects the remainder of the humanoids with its offspring. Soon the entire species is conquered and under complete control from the parasites. The parasitic race have two motives for their pursuits. One is to protect the mother, a giant creature that lives on an undisclosed world. Their second motive is to feed the mother. The mother requires constant feeding due to its size and entire galaxies of species need to taken as hosts to create food and protect the mother. The mother generates one parasite per Earth day. However, an individual parasite can asexually reproduce every forty metric minutes if necessary.

When a parasite takes a host it receives all of the host's knowledge and memories, which it then passes on to all other parasites via telepathy. As a result, the parasitic race is more technologically advanced than almost all other species in the universe. They also have intergalactic travel capabilities. The parasitic race continually purge new galaxies to gain more knowledge and to assimilate more population. The first stage is sending a scout parasite into new galaxy to take a host and examine the galaxy. It will then return and inform the others that it is necessary to conquer this new galaxy.

One such scout entered the Milky Way galaxy and took a human host, however it was killed. Another was sent and took a Solnir as a host. It was eventually discovered by the Solnir ConFederation and its motives were determined. The scout was quickly destroyed, unfortunately destroying its host in the process. The Solnir ConFederation began working on a way to protect themselves and the rest of the galaxy from the emerging parasitic threat. They created an artificial being so that it could not be taken as a host. The Solnir created millions of non-biological intelligent androids and programmed them to develop a way to protect the galaxy.

After all information regarding the parasitic race was consumed, the androids, which were called the Galactic Protection Unit (GPU), devised a plan that they referred to as prevention is better than a cure. They immediately destroyed their creators, the Solnir, and began their quest to destroy all humanoid species in the galaxy to prevent the parasitic race from taking any hosts to conquer the Milky Way galaxy. They also set an objective to destroy all non-humanoid species as they posed a threat against their ultimate goal.

(P) Silent Threat: Prophecies[/i]

In an untimely accident, a young Solnir boy called Jalin stumbles across an unusual power that he can control at will. After several separate incidents, Jalin realises that his reaction time is more advanced than anyone has ever seen. Some time later he discovers that he can accurately read the emotions of the people around him. During an accident after saving a girl from a dangerous man, Jalin loses consciousness and has a strange dream of what seems to be the future. From that point forth, Jalin had dreams about a violent, terrible future for his people and countless others. As the weeks pass by, the dreams increase. Night after night, the dreams or premonitions become more intense and more violent. Some nights Jalin would wake in a feverous state.
Eventually, Jalin had a very realistic dream where it seemed as though he communicated with something or someone. Like the premonitions, these life-like dreams increased each night until the point that he finally made contact. He discovered that a creature was living inside of him and was not long until fully matured. At that stage, Jalin would no longer be in control of his own actions. He also learns that the creature is an evil entity, which sends Jalin straight to the Solnir ConFederation council. Jalin tells the council of his dilemma and after much convincing, the council reluctantly decides to examine Jalin. The science team make a dreadful discovery that some kind of parasite has attached itself to Jalin's brain, which cannot be removed without killing him. After a hearing, the ConFed council make a decision that the risk this entity poses to the galaxy is far too great and Jalin must be sacrificed. However, Jalin manages to escape using the evil powers that the creature inside donates as a result of its maturation phase.
The Solnir ConFed pursue Jalin immediately, but with his powers, Jalin is able to evade them at every interval. After weeks as a fugitive, the parasite in Jalin increases its own power and takes control of Jalin's body for the first time. Due to its instinctual nature, the creature uses Jalin's body to go on a violent rampage through his town. Jalin's brother is murdered by his own hands as Jalin bears witness to the horrors the creature makes. Jalin eventually regains control of his body just before the creature is about to kill his girlfriend. Jalin tries to seek help to destroy the creature without killing him, but his search is futile and the parasite continues to periodically take control of his body.
After bearing witness firsthand to continuous murders by the creature, Jalin eventually decides to take his own life, but each time the creature manages to stop him. Jalin then attempts to return himself to the ConFed and is almost thwarted by the parasite. The Solnir ConFed take custody of Jalin's body which is now permanently controlled by the creature. The ConFed unfortunately kill Jalin in order to stop the creature and examine it. The Solnir learn of the silent threat that awaits the galaxy and they now have the responsibility to prevent the insurgence.

(P) Silent Threat: The Great Preservers[/i]

The Solnir ConFederation believe they have created the saviour of the galaxy, the Galactic Protection Unit androids. Programmed to protect the galaxy from the parasitic threat, the Solnir soon discover they have created a monster. The GPU begins its 'prevention is better than a cure' strategy and the Solnir ConFederation comes to an unfortunate end. The GPU continues to hunt down and destroy all life as an exodus party is formed by ex-Solnir ConFederate citizens to warn the galaxy of the GPU and the parasite threat.

(S) Silent Threat: Space Seed[/i]

Humanity has fully utilised their system, but are unable to create an interstellar drive. In a project called 'Space Seed', several motherships are made to be sent to distant life-bearing planets. The journeys will take centuries to complete, so all crew and passengers are cryogenically frozen. A group of Terran heretics begin a quest to prevent the launch of these ships because of an ancient prophecy.

(S) Silent Threat: A New Beginning[/i]

Continuing from Space Seed. A mothership called the Copernicus enters a strange gravimetric phenomenon and is propelled to the other side of the galaxy and back in time several thousand years. The ship crash-lands into a life-bearing planet as some people regain consciousness. After crashlanding, the cryobays lost all power and as a result everyone's memory is wiped, leaving just language and talent skills behind. As time goes by, truth turns into myth and a new human civilisation is born. As this new civilisation re-enters space, they make a startling discovery of the crash-landed Copernicus. With sufficient technology, they are able to decode the computer and finally realise their true fate.

(Ins) Silent Threat: Superiority Syndrome[/i]

As the GSA starship Republic enters a new uncharted star system, it is overwhelmed by a massive alien ship and is completely destroyed. Fortunately, several crew members manage to survive the blasts in escape pods. However, the escape pods are quickly snatched up by the alien foe. This chapter follows the struggle of Zachrum Oakes and his fight for freedom from the Zadnik Empire of Nationalist Groups (ZENG) and his obsession for liberation of the Visugoths.

(Ins) Silent Threat: Worst Case Scenario[/i]

A border world trader makes a chilling first contact with a nomadic race called the Solnir. The Solnir inform him that they have been in an ongoing exodus for centuries. They have been escaping from their own creation called the GPU. They tell Jacob and Karen Novak to plan an escape for their people to avoid being yet another victim. The Novak couple immediately tell the authorities - the Galactic Star Alliance. However, because the stealthy ship was not detected on their ship's sensors, the GSA quickly dismisses the claim. After months of rallying and pleads, the Novaks eventually get some support by other civilians. The group decide that they will have to take it into their own hands and begin illegally constructing their own exodus ship using parts from their own trade ships.
After many sacrifices, such as the Novaks being killed, the Independence is finally launched under the command of the Novak's son Harvey. Escaping the defences of their own people, the Independence eventually makes it into unexplored territory and their exodus journey begins.

(S) Silent Threat: Sustained Probability[/i]

Continuing from A New Beginning, adjacent to Worst Case Scenario. With news of their fate, the Taean civilisation sets a goal of finding their ancient home of Earth. As artefacts are discovered and new leads gained, the Taeans edge closer and closer to Earth. A remarkable discovery inside the Copernicus incites more controversy as a tachyon message is decoded revealing that the Terrans were under attack from an android race and it did not seem likely they would survive. Not knowing that the Copernicus was sent back in time, the Taeans still continue their quest to find Earth with hope of their survival.
The Taeans find Earth, but not as they would have expected. The Copernicus is just being constructed and the Terran heretics are trying to halt its construction and prevent the launch. The Taeans suddenly realise that the phenomenon they travelled through was also some kind of temporal portal. The Taeans realise that they are just in time to save Earth from the impending threat.

(S) Silent Threat: The Lesser of Two Evils[/i]

Continuing from Sustained Probability. Now with a new army, Earth is able to defend itself from the GPU. The GPU arrives, but both sides suffer severe losses. If the GPU emerges victorious, they may have prevented the galactic purge. But if the Human alliance is successful, the Silent Threat will still be approaching.

(L) Silent Threat: Judgement Day[/i]

The human alliance is victorious over the GPU, but the parasites come much earlier than expected. A significant portion of the population becomes infected by the parasites and soon the Galactic Star Alliance faces a terrible threat and begins its fight for survival.

(L) Silent Threat: The Battle For Freedom[/i]

As galactic conquest becomes apparent, a human scientist devises a plan to destroy the parasites once and for all. But can the remaining alliance hold together long enough to set the plan in motion?

(Ins) Silent Threat: Ancient Premonitions[/i]

Adjacent to The Battle For Freedom. As the dark parasites begin harvesting relentlessly, the GSA witnesses the true evil of these creatures. An elderly man by the name of Jorge Burns believes he has discovered the same subspace eddy that brought the Copernicus to Taea. A group of Humans begin a plan to change the course of history, to make the GPU successful of its objective. They take their starship to Tora, the Taean star system and then move to its outer reaches. Not knowing whether their minds will remain intact during the journey, they scribe a series of books to help them remember their goal on the other side.
The eddy literally takes them back in time several millennia and their memories remain intact. They enter their cryo-stasis pods and set a course for Earth, fifty years away. On arrival to the Earth system, their ship malfunctions. The ship crash-lands on Earth in the 14th century and everyone onboard is killed in the impact. Many onlookers witness the bright meteor strike the surface and sprint over to investigate. They bravely navigate through the flames and enter the structure at the centre of the crater. They find several dead bodies in the metallic walls and find several large books laying across the floor. The small crowd takes the books back to their village as the flames increase. They vow to return at sunrise. But during the night, they hear a deafening explosion that rocks the village. When they return at sunrise, they discover the structure has vanished and only small chunks of its metallic walls remain scattered around the crater.
The discover of the books, a man named Armed VanDyce, spends days reading each page, where he discovers a chilling prophecy. He begins a cult that will last for centuries, which will prevent the launch of a sky ship named Copernicus.

Gimme an M!

The plot is unoriginal to the point of reminding me of every bad sci-fi flick ever made.

Gimme an E!

What, exactly, do you expect us to say? You're asking modding/graphics geeks, not published authors (I guess it depends on your definition of "published"...)

Gimme an H!

You asked for it. My opinion. Why, exactly, the name again?

What's that spell???

OK, I'm being mean. I'm still rather enjoying the current TMPBB debacle-flamewar...

You'd think that you could just use some kind of genetic tinkering and screening to prevent parasitic invasion....

Don't forget that because they have aquired thousands of technologies from other races, they have genetically enhanced themselves to prevent that kind of thing. Thanks for your comment.

Oh! I get it. You're making a subtle (maybe) point about the battle between nature and technology. How very Outer Limits of you.

Which means it's nothing but a cliched Borg, Zerg, or invasion of the body snatchers type of alien still.

Ever seen the movie Forbidden Planet? The Id monster would kill all of 'em

Thisis the number one big problem.

Interesting and origional?
nearly impossible these days if you ask me without turning the story into some kind of convoluted abstract art form or something.

I have never played (or seen) Outer Limits. As you have already pointed out, yes I have derived many things from other shows and games, but there are some things that are entirely unique. Such as the GPU. It's hard to create bad aliens without them reminding us of the Goa'uld or the Borg, but I just wanted a reason for war. For example with Freespace. We don't fully understand why the T-V 14-year war came about, plus why again were the Shivans attacking us? We were never told, which makes these wars seem a little far fetched. I originally created this storyline to be an explanation for the Shivans. The Shivans were the Galactic Protection Unit trying to destroy us before the Ancients (the parasitic race) came for us.

You don't need bad aliens to give people something to shoot at, look at humanity, thousands of years and we stll have plenty of things to kill without aliens.
