Best First Date Stories
A counterpart to the other thread, since it was saturated with loneliness and was getting a bit depressing. :D

Doesn't necessarily have to be constrained to first dates.. but surely some HLPers have had nice relationships in the past?

My relationship with Sharon is wonderful and I have no cause for complaint, except, possibly, could she get her elbow out of my back? :D

Granted, but the other thread provides both amusement and comfort for those of us wallowing in solitude. Hearing about happy couples will only make matters worse!

Therefore, let's only have "best date" stories that contain some amount of hilarity to offset the brooding jealousy they're likely to attract.

But what if rubbing my past successes in you guys' faces makes me feel better about myself? :D

I hear you ther buddy, only with Sue it's usually her knee in my back! :sigh:

First date story? Well I met Sue in a nightclub on holiday/vacation. I had been bouncing around on the dance floor like a lunatic having a wail of a time when I sat down for a swig of my beer and a breather. As I looked around the room I saw this one girl on her own, stood against a wall sipping a beer through a straw and sort of swaying to the music and looking around the room. I could tell she was dying to get on the dance floor, but obviously felt a bit awkward going out htere on her own. I caught her eye, nodded to the dance floor and mouthed "Get up and dance" with a smile. She smiled back, nodded to the dance floor herself and mouthed "Come on then". The rest is history, I left her at the campsite we were staying at on thr Friday to return to Bolton where I lived at the time. Sue went home to her husband on the Saturday, told him it was over between them and was living with me in Bolton by Monday. We have been together eleven years now, married for six this September.  :)

Re: Best First Date Stories

Many moons ago, Whilest meeting my brothers prospecting in-laws for the first time at a family meets family dinner, i was happily slumped in a setee' when some bird walked in. Never seen her before i piped up, "y'alright uv, how ya been?" she looked at me a bit bemused and afraid of looking stupid she gave me a big hug and plantted a wet one on my cheek, at which point i shoved her off and said "what are you doing i've never seen you before in my life!!"

At this point the little voice which makes me do bad thing s piped up and told me i could take advantage of an easily led impressionable 20 year old . Suffice to say i don't always follow the advice, sometimes it's just a case of delayed compliance.......

As the night went on, the young lady  ( turns out it was prospective sister-in-laws best mate) absolutley demolished the prospective father in laws supply of chivers whiskey. I spent half the night getting off with her, the other half
Spoiler:
getting something quite pleasant in the kitchen,
She asked me back to hers, i said no (gent that i was at that time (single too) anyways, i got a call the next day begging to meet me at greenwich. Which i did, pubs were visited, restaraunts were entered.....................
Spoiler:
eventually so was she and i never called her back :)

Don't feel sorry for him, apparently he drank and gambled all her money, beat her up and even raped her at times! A complete dickhead! I believe he is now a proper coke head!

Besides if she had been happy with him, she wouldn't have got off with me that night, afterall I can't make her do anything she doesn't wasn't to do. (If you knew her you'd know what I mean!)

Re: Best First Date Stories
...We have been together eleven years now, married for six this September.  :)

Congrats sir! It sounds like her bad luck beforehand was balanced out by you. :)

And Colonol Dekker, er... I'm guessing prospective didn't turn into actual sister-in-law? Or if it did, I'm guessing there was a bit of.. awkwardness..?

I'll throw in my story. This is from way back when in early 2005.

I'd been screwing around with this boy Wesley for a while, but he didn't really seem to want a relationship. In retrospect, I shouldn't have been infatuated with him at all, but I was insecure and figured he was the best I could get. Not really even my type at all. But I saw no other options - no gays were out in my high school other than me. On the other hand, we hadn't made any commitments to each other... in fact quite the opposite..

I got lucky - someone came across my Xanga and told a friend about me, who told HER friend, Trevor. He chatted me up on AIM and seemed too good to be true - very similar. Into the same kinds of music, both quiet, computer-oriented people, neither flamboyant or flaming, and he seemed genuinely nice. But I still felt I had invested in Wesley, so it was difficult to commit. But I did. We talked for a few more days, on AIM and on the phone, then decided to hang out at my house.

We had lots of fun, and it wasn't awkward or date-y. He brought over his laptop and we played CS:Source and I showed him Deus Ex. Just two guys playing video games and eating pizza - perfect. (One of the advantages of the gayness: males tend to have common interests.) He was cuter than his pictures - tall and dark. And very smart - he ran a computer repair business of his own, and he was only 18 (older than me, but still). More important than that, he seemed nice. Wesley, and most of the gay guys I knew, were a bit rough around the edges (at least).

So we went upstairs and popped in a comedy DVD, cuddled up on the couch, and made sure the parents were asleep. Suffice it to say it was a fun night. And we ended up staying together for another year and a half after that. :) Still good friends.

Anyways, that's my idea of a perfect date - finding someone who enjoys the same things I do, and getting to know him through those things.

Steel Workers of America, we salute you!  :drevil:

Sorry, couldn't resist! Anywho, do you have a partner now?

Well, maybe not THAT rough around the edges...

Not at the moment. Had a breakup about a month ago - and it's a bit early to start looking around again. (Although I am.  :nervous:)

Re: Best First Date Stories
You want funny? On my first date with my g/f (weeeh, not single anymore for 9 months now), we got agressed by kids ( I swear, 14 years max), one with a hammer, one with a tazer and one with nothing (or maybe bad smell, which can be lethal too, granted), in the Commons (a small forest in Southampton). Got away by giving them a cigarette and telling them to piss off (following that, my mother -who had nothing to do with it and was hundreds of miles away- got called names never heard of before, but at least I didn't have to fight - which is as well, I'm not sure how well I'd fare against blunt or zappomatic' tools ><).
And here was me thinking a walk in the forest would be a good, romantic idea. I love Southampton
Anyway, it still worked out, and we're still an happy couple (and I'm getting out of that freaken country soon, yeepee).
SCREW CANON!

Re: Best First Date Stories
The only thing embarrasing to happen to me on my first date was my contacts falling out during the movies because my eyes were too dry. I dunno if that really counts.... I guess I should consider myself lucky. She still makes fun of me for it though.
