Guyz FS2 Colossus CD keeps on re-installing.......when install complete it says the error which came when i open the FS2 SCP openinstaller.....my FS2 all dunno what happen.......FS2 Colossus also cannot open.....FS2 SCP also cnnot open...... oh dear......  :mad2: :mad2:   :( :( :( :(

Likely due to a problem with OpenAL.

First of all, just go with FS2O, forget Colossus.  Colossus isn't the full game, anyway.

Just install FS2 SCP using Turey's installer (the EXE version, not the Java version), make sure you install OpenAL, then make sure you haev no old OpenAL files lingering on your system.  I forget the filenames, but there are three files that typically cause problems.  A quick search of the forums for "OpenAL" should get you some results.  After that, run "launcher.exe," select the options you want, follow the directions, and hit "run" and you're good.

Go torrent prototype24's Retail FS2 CDs, then install FSO on top of them...  I don't trust OEM games when using upgrades / patches meant to be used with Retail games.

Thing is that I'm pretty sure Colossus works with the SCP. I remember trying it years ago and I can't see any good reason why it wouldn't work now.

Forget using any CDs DVDs or any of the stock FSes under the SCP when you install the SCP over a stock install of FS2 it only leads to problems, in my experience. Uninstall your CDs and use Turey's installer. It makes life sooooo much easier.

Stock FS2 works fine and the SCP works fine. I was only saying that when you mix the two, problems are guaranteed to happen.

Don't listen to colecampbell.  Running SCP over stock FS2 works perfectly fine.

I was just speaking from experience. I've had so many problems mixing the two that I just said "screw stock". If you only use one version there is a lower possibility of error, though.

Not really. Only if you're so forgetful as to be unable to remember which folder you installed Retail to before installing FS2_Open.

Just get EVERYTHING off of turey's installer.  That's the simplest, most clear-cut method.

It's also an immense waste of time and bandwidth if you have the CDs as anyone over the intelligence level of a chimp should be capable of installing the SCP using Turey's installer on top of a retail install.

The more people you convince to download the entire thing even though they don't have to, the more likely it becomes that Razorkiss will get a nasty letter from his host and the entire installer will have to be pulled. Convincing everyone to download an extra gigabyte of data because they can't be bothered to run the standard retail installer is just dumb.

You DO get problems if you mod or tweak your Retail install, and then install SCP over that... Retail, you have to put stuff in the root dir or data subdir to mod.  SCP has the mod feature for that.  But, if you have the CDs, uninstall everything, re-install RETAIL from the CDs, and then install SCP, preferrably after copying the .mves from the disks, as I point out in my walkthrough (Turey's Installer link in my siggy).

If you don't have the retail disks and/or can't figure out how to replace that one file in Collussus that needs replacing (kara knows which one), then just google this:

prototype24 freespace2 torrent

You'll get a result like this one.
You can get a decent Bittorrent client here (get the Installation program, not the standalone, unless you're comfortable with torrents, in which case, I shouldn't have to be telling you this.)

Now, install your Bittorrent client (uTorrent), then get prototype24's torrent mentioned above.  Then, Google up:

virtual clonedrive

and you get this
Install that, double click on the FS2 .iso for disk 1 (after it's done torrenting, obviously!!), and install.  When it asks for disk 2, hit your Windows key on the keyboard (or Ctrl+Esc if you don't have a Windows key), and open Run, type in "explorer" and hit enter.  Find your protoype24 download again, double-click on disk 2's iso file.  go back to the installer, hit next.  Do the same for disk 3.  Now, copy the .mve's off of the FS2 disks, as seen in my walkthrough.  Next, if you have the FS1 .mve's (on the FS1 CD), copy those.  NOW, Install SCP to THE SAME FOLDER AS YOU INSTALLED RETAIL FS2 TO.

I do hope that's clear enough!!

Also, joshua would like to point out that downloading all the files yourself appears to go faster for him. And its more usefull when you have to re-install everything, as the files are still zipped and well on your hard-drive (Joshua needed do do that many times...)

Karajorma, that's very true.  I've done it, and I see your point.  However, the author of this topic seems to be having a VERY difficult time with that very thing.  So I directed him to the simplest solution.

Point taken, though.  I won't recommend that as a first choice.
