Yeah, so I'm leaving in three days to go spend a nice 9 weeks worth of Air Force basic training in San Antonio.  I'll be in California for about a year after that, during which time I may be coming back here occasionally.  However, in case that doesn't happen... laterz, HLP.

Linguistics.  It involves becoming fluent or semi-fluent in a foreign language and intercepting communications in that language.  It's a pretty cushiony job.

Actually, here's the list (I've bolded the ones that are the most necessary and are therefore the likely options):

Category I language: 95 or better
(Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish)


Category II language: 100 or better
(German)

Category III language: 105 or better
(Belarusian, Czech, Greek, Hebrew, Persian, Polish, Russian, Croatian, Slovak, Tagalog, Thai, Turkic, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese)

Category IV language: 110 or better
(Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean)

I scored a 131 on the aptitude test.  The language I get is dependant on that score and where the hot areas on the map:  From the list, you can see we're doing work in Israel and the Middle East, as well as spying on Iran, China, and North Korea.

Anyway, have fun with your new job I'm sure CA isn't such backwards place that an internet connection is impossible to scrounge up, so pop in from time to time and let the inquiring masses know what exciting new words you've learned. Start with the useful stuff, like how to order beer in arabic in such a way that you don't offend the locals
