I'm curious, what's the current state of Ross 128? Does the GTVA still maintain a installation there ?

IIRC, they never rebuilded it, and it is still left to pirates and smugglers and the like.

I figured they'd at least leave an installation, because it was the point of initial Shivan contact.

Methinks I was the only one who saw the topic and thought, "That website went down ages ago, dude."

In FS2, I don't think the system is ever mentioned in the present tense, but I would think that in the thirty-two year interval between FS1 and FS2, the GTVA would have done something to restore order to the system.  With Delta Serpentis one jump away, and no other way to access the systems beyond Ross 128, it would be strategically and logistically unwise to leave the system in anarchy.  Furthermore, the GTVA seems to like consolidating power under its own umbrella, so I doubt they'd have left the system to another organization.

well they seem to have done that, especially in inferno.

Hmm, I have an interesting idea for a campaign. The GTVA could investigate Ross 128 and find the origin of the first Shivan wave. Maybe there could a Knosso portal or something.

AKA, inferno.  :doubt:

give or take a few plot differences and a whole separate war raging in the meanwhile.

but we do agree on the fact that mods aside, the GTVA would have an installation, plus standing forces?

I was considering and still am considering Ross 128 as a possible theater of operations and/or combat against enemies of the GTVA, or using the system to obtain accurate intelligence on the strategic and tactical objectives of forces hostile to the GTVA.

More refugees I guess. At least this time its mostly Vasudans instead of Terran. But seriously, Shivans were first officially sighted in Ross 128. There was got to be something out there. Maybe theres another jump node that leads to a system beyond GTVA space.

My thoughts exactly. Since Ross 128 is the first system of Shivan contact, the GTVA should have a heavy installation there ... and probably very few civilians.

It's been 30 frikkin' years. You'd think the GTVA would have reestablished itself there.
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta
