I thought the TIE/In fighter and TIE Interceptor were different?
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

The naming convention is screwed up.

T/In=TIE Fighter

T/I= TIE Interceptor

T/F=TIE Fighter

The last two I know are from the games. T/F makes more sense than T/In imho.

Also, the TIE Interceptor is quite a debate when it comes down to its laser cannons.

How many cannons will the T/I have?

Edit:  Also, Truespace isn't necessary for modeling, and neither is purchasing the full version.  3.2 is available freely and still capable of making models.  There's also Blender, 3ds Max, Wings3d, Sketchup, Solid Modeling applications, etc...

but you most buy everything for modelling full version

tie interceptor has 4 laser cannons

these laser cannons are located on the forward wingtips, and have the same firing options as x-wing cannons.

IIRC, TIE/In stands for TIE In-line fighter. Whatever the hell that means.

someone get a wookiepedia link here!

Okay:

T.I.E. Fighter: Used in A New Hope, the white one
TIE/ln (look closely, it's a L N, but it's not capitalized): Upgraded post yavin design, Ln stands for Line Fighter
TIE/In (I N this time): Tie Interceptor

Guns? 2 Lasers 4 Blasters:
Quote
The original production model only utilized four laser cannons, one on each wingtip. The cannon hardpoints located on the ball cockpit remained, and two additional cannons could be placed in those hardpoints if room for additional power generators could be found.

Later, Imperial scientists reengineered the TIE/In so that it had two laser cannons and replaced the original wingtip cannons with blaster cannons, making six cannons altogether. The two empty hardpoints under the cockpit were utilized in this model, creating a more powerful TIE/In. It is believed these models participated in the Battle of Endor.

and of course evidence to back it up:

So we'll have two variants, one with 4 lasers, one with 2 lasers and 4 blasters.

Someday the author of the Star Wars Technical Commentaries is going to come by here and cry, out of joy, exclaiming how happy he is that someone finally made such wonderful use out of all the details he's collected from the star wars universe.  Then he'll give Turambar and Brand-X a medal.  Well, it'd be nice anyway.  Great job Brand, the only thing left is the rivets :)

OH SNAP!

I didn't even notice that from the movies. And the description makes sense too.

I also didn't know that they used T/In for the TIE Interceptor. Wikipedia labels them with T/I like in the games, but they are wikipedia after all  :p

And good job with the model. Can't wait for the final release.

The wookieepedia tends to be a little better than the Wikipedia, using sources like the SWTC as opposed to often flawed EGVV and WEG game guides.

Yeah, the proper designations for all the TIEs seen in the movies (as I posted in the other thread, all caps for clarity):

T.I.E. Starfighter (From A New Hope)
TIE/LN Starfighter (Blue TIE from ESB and ROTJ)
TIE/IN Interceptor
TIE/SA Starfighter (TIE Bomber)
TIE/SH Shuttle (Only seen briefly, looks like a bomber without the bomb chute)
TIE Advanced x1 (Vader's TIE)

What is the difference between blaster and laser? In game that is.

And they'll be colored differently to tell.  Probably a yellow, since red green and blue are all taken, and it's the only one that would stand out enough.  That or purple.

Yes, handheld blasters.  But in space it will be nice to have a different color.  Spacecraft blasters I believe should be stronger than a sidearm.  I suppose we can pan through a movie and find a ship known to have blasters and see what color they were though, to be accurate.  Although, that screenshot from earlier makes it appear that the T/I is firing both a green laser and a green blaster together.  Not sure where that smaller green beam is coming from.  Size may be usable to show a difference in power as well.
