Mission design, minus rebalancing that may need to be done once HTL mods are finalized, has been finished for some time.

Unless you are trying to account for the time people will stop fighting and stare at them...

So pretty much all that's left is voice acting and few tweaks to the campaign??

And a bunch of HTL models.  But Voice acting can take a very long time.

Yeah. What makes it take so long, anyway? Casting roles? Scripts? Or the actual recording?

Yeah. What makes it take so long, anyway? Casting roles? Scripts? Or the actual recording?

Getting voice actor's then recording after that voice editing and maybe looking additional voices  if something didn't sound great after all

Anyway nice that it's closer to release been waiting this hmm about 7 years  :P

BWO is only four missions long? Are you serious? That many mods and that much time for four missions?! Rabble! RABBLE! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!

Hmm... Okay then. 40 random BWO related questions...

1. Since the Hydra is no longer used, what is the reason (in-universe) that such a new ship was retired?

2. Will the weapons from Twilight return?
Some of them will.

3. Since the Golgotha only has 200,000 hitpoints, is it possible for the player to tackle her alone or almost alone in a Helios-equipped Myrmidon?
No

4. Are SCP Leviathans more dangerous than GTVA Leviathans (both retrofitted versions)?
Yes

5. It is said more Aeolus cruisers appear, and that they were again mass-produced. Is this plot-significant, or just as an excuse to use more Aeolus cruisers?
An excuse :)

6. If we enter the Solar System, what sort of backgrounds will we see?
Sol backgroups

7. Will the Tapoheh Raleigh Group appear again?
No, but there are references if you can catch them as to what occurred.

8. Are there humorous easter eggs?
A few if you can catch them

9. If you are not using cutscene SEXPs, how are you going to ensure a player is not looking the other way when an event is triggered?
Events will ensure that players will catch plot-critical "cutscene" like sequences.

10. Will there be undercover missions?
If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

11. Will the player be expected to directly interact with the Golgotha, or will it be a prop like the Lucifer in FS1?
You directly interact with it.

12. If you have not played Aftermath, Derelict, Twilight or Warzone, will BWO's plot be incomprehensible?
The plot is accessible to everyone, though playing the demo is recommended due to the background it sets up.

13. Will the player have a chance to fly all the new "player_allowed" ships, or will we have to make our own missions for this?

14. Since most of us have played FreeSpace so much that the fun of dogfighting 60 enemy Perseus fighters has worn off, will we be expected to play long missions which reveal little about the plot (Procyon Insurgency's balance of gameplay and plot was one of its best features IMO)?
Any long missions that occur are plot-relevant.

15. Will we return to Tau Sigma?
Yes

16. If any characters from Derelict appear in BWO, will you try to get the same voice actor to do their role?

17. For voice acting, have you made new Vasudan talk?

18. Will the campaign take advantage of all the ships it introduces, or will it be like INFR1 where half of the new ships weren't used?
We are utilizing all new ships.

19. Are skyboxes going to be used?
Yes

20. Are all mods home-made or will you take some well known publicly available things too (like the Raynor)?
Everything, save for HTL retail ships, are BWO mods.

21. How are you ensuring that plot-relevant characters are not killed? Randomized ship-guardian-threshold, surreptitiously regenerating hull, special hitpoints or just blatant invulnerability?

22. Is there a new main hall?

23. Will you have retail quality command briefing animations?
They look good

24. Will you have new briefing icons?
Not necessary

25. What's the SCP naming convention?
Sol Military (Ship Type)

26. Will the plot be reasonably predictable, completely unpredictable with lots of twists, or will it be like PI where we can figure it out like a detective novel?
Depends on what you consider predictable. There are twists, but they are foreshadowed.

27. What are the Shivans doing at the time of BWO? Just lazing around or something that indirectly affects the BWO universe/continuity?
There are no Shivans in BWO.

28. Will you have fully written tech room stuff? Will the tech room update itself like it did in the main FS2 campaign?

29. Will you have more fiction entries on the website, or is everything going into the mod?

30. Will you be using species_defs.tbl for creating fully diverse factions?

31. Is there one of those clichéd missions where we have to disable a Golgotha's Meson cannon?

32. Will Aidan Mallory always be Alpha leader, or will he change to, say, Gamma 3 half-way through?
He's a seasoned squadron leader, you'll be Alpha 1. There is no reason to use the feature unless it's plot-relevant.

33. Will old friends like Petrarch and Snipes appear?
If I told you I'd have to kill you.

34. What build should we play BWO on?
BWO is intended on being released with its own standalone build.


35. Will some of Dark's things be in BWO besides the Charon and Golgotha?

36. Will you be using real photos of the solar system planets or will they be renders/photoshopped stuff?
Renders to create a consistent appearance for all systems.


37. Will there be interface animations such as ship overheads and rotating grid ships or are we just going to use -3d_ship_choice?

38. If BWO answers all the questions of Derelict and the other prior campaigns, what room is there for a sequel (if there is a sequel)?
There is room for a sequel, but the ending is a true ending.

39. Will you release BWO immediately when it's completed (after testing I mean) or will you wait for a public holiday like Christmas or American Independence Day for it to be released?

40. How many sticky threads are there in BWO internal, and how many replies does the largest thread in Internal have? Will you have a "The Making of BlackWater Operations" sort of thing explaining the highs and lows of development, and how it was organized?
A making of may be created when closer to release.
