Faux News Ad hominem Attack on Liberal
If Faux shifted any more to the right, I think the world itself would fall over.

Christopher Hitchens is a silly minstrel show for the Christian Right's masturbatory indignation. He's the embodiment of the general public's child-like conception of an intellectual, and he's about as edgy as that second-year psychology major who delights everyone at the party with his groundbreaking insights into the failure of communism.

I tend to agree. No one came off well in that interview.

Re: Faux News Ad hominem Attack on Liberal
Being stoically 'Liberal' (I hate that term, because it doesn't mean to me what it means to the average American) doesn't always mean being vehemently and brutishly against those you disagree with, and a difference on viewpoint doesn't always justify the hurling of insults back and forth.

I'm with Kara here, even though my opinions of far-right religious figures is not all that high, neither side were ever going to be willing to listen to the other. I've never heard of Hitchins before today, but if this is the way he normally talks about things he doesn't agree with, it's no surprise Fox chose to interview him, after all that, really is a station you watch either for a laugh, or because you're already part of the choir, I doubt Fox has 'converted' anyone away from the Left Wing for a great deal of time.

There is a reason why I say the term "conservative" no long applys to most of the right. This is one excellent illustration of it.

Well, from an admittedly foreign viewpoint, it seems to me that the 'Left' needs to dedicate itself less towards attacking everything the Right does or says, and more into what they plan to do should they get into power. I can see 2008 being the year of 'Ok, we won....now what?'.

That's exactly what the 2006 midterm elections were. I've long maintained that Republicans are generally motivated towards destroying the country and the world, while the Democrats are generally too damn incompetent to do anything about it.

Re: Faux News Ad hominem Attack on Liberal
from someone who is able to understand the rightwing American mindset, I think the guy did prety well, he portrayed Falwell as 'evil' and 'treasonous' and gave some pretty ****ing good examples of what he was talking about. for a good two or three years I listened to Sean Hannity's radio show (because it was the only thing on during my lunch break that was remotely political) so I'm judging this guy by Hannity audience standards.

Re: Faux News Ad hominem Attack on Liberal
Yes but he also allowed himself to be goaded into looking like every Christian fundamentalists worst nightmare of what an atheist is. He should have concentrated on the evil things Falwell did a lot harder. Most Americans won't take lightly the comment he made about America deserving 9/11 as punishment for their immorality. Unfortunately he allowed that sort of thing to be drowned out so that the sheep who watch Fox news would actually see it as a simple good vs evil battle which their side won.

If you're going on Fox News don't use the word demagogue. The audience members who you're trying to convince that you're correct won't have the faintest clue what it means. Instead of wasting time complaining that Fox News had invited him on and set him up as a strawman (which is ****ing stupid of him NOT to have expected) he should have spent the same amount of time pointing out Falwell's anti-gay comments and his pro-segregation history. He should have made more of the 9/11 comment.

And he should have mentioned that bit about Falwell claiming that one of the Teletubbies is gay. That's always good for a laugh.

That's a damn cool interpretation, since it's the US right-wingers who have thrown **** at "liberals" for last 20 years and now these same right-wingers act all pissed when someone dares to question said right-wingers' methods.

It's "blame the victim" syndrome at its finest.
lol wtf
