Sounds pretty good. I've read quite a few good books on writing good code but I've never read any specifically about game programming. I might have to take a look.

How C specific is the book though? Obviously the STL chapter is rather useless in other languages but is the rest very specific?

it's C++ all the way through - though many of the patterns will translate into other languages it thus far has been talking about C++, including how to abuse the templating system to do some really wicked optimizations

Yeah. That's what I was on about. Whether is was discussing stuff that could be used or simply how to squeeze the most out of C++

I guess that means it might be worth reading at some point. That said I have a stack of technical reading to do at the moment anyway if even if I do get it, it won't be any time soon.

Dang, that's the most expensive read I've seen on Amazon in a while, and I go there all the time.  I guess I'm looking for more obscure stuff though, that no one wants to pay anything for.

That's nothing actually. Textbooks are very expensive in general. Here is an extreme example. :p

Yeah, but of the last 3 books I bought on Amazon, two were hardbound and all there were less than $25 each.
