TIE Shuttle is a converted TIE bomber that's got no bomb chute and replaced the warhead bay with passenger seating.  Same basic mesh, just without the bomb chute.

Someone who wants to go between two capital ships that are only a few kilometers from each other? Or maybe from orbit down to a planets surface? Granted, it wont take you far, or carry many people, but that's what Lambdas and DX9s and the like are for. The empire must mass manufacture TIE bomber spaceframes, and it's gotta be cheaper/easier to maintain to give an ISD a dozen of these little things rather than a dozen Lambda's to do exactly the same tasks? It's the Sci-Fi Equivalent of riding your bike down to the shops.

Plus, brick as TIE Bomber/Shuttle may be, it's still a bit faster than Lambda class shuttle. Not enough that it would be any better in outrunning ambushers, but transit times would be somewhat shorter.

Both Lambda class and TIE/Sh are pathetic as combat transports. Stormtrooper Transports are only a bit better, but then the Assault Transports were damned monsters with their turrets.

I wonder if they fitted the TIE/Sh's with shield generators for increased durability?

It's for the passenger ejection button.  Pilots push it when passengers ask too many questions.
