Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
its planned out as 2/3 the size of the collosus, with 55 turrets, 10 of which are multipart flak/aaa/antifighter plasma launchers. all of the blobs are B5 style plasma turrets that fire of multiple shots. single-barrel multiparts are aimed with AAA beams so they have a wider range (and look cool). to balance this, the AAAs only fire one shot.

unturreted untexture beta, .obj format.

ps: how do you tile bitmaps over individual sets of faces without maving them as a seperate object? my proram im going to use to tile the textures is ts 3.2 or 3ds MAX 7

What is it with the need for obscene amounts of turrets?

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
because its a destroyer, and fs currently has very low turret counts for its ships. come on!? so little turrets over such a large area? it seems to be the failing of all the destroyers/juggernaughts in fs!

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
It's called Field of Fire (FOF). Turrets are placed along strategic points of the ship's hull for maximum effectiveness and for the best cover. So little turrets over such a large area? Try a half a dozen flak guns and about that many AAA beams on one side of an Orion destroyer.

And by the way, destroyers and juggernauts (it's spelled juggernaut, not juggernaught) have damn good fighter cover and ship to ship power. Why do I say this? I play this game on Hard and Insane, depending on what I feel like playing, without cheats, and it's freaking hard to get close without getting hit by AAAs.

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon

Multi/Sub-Object materials. But:

1) Given you're track record I'm disenclined to take the time to explain it all
2) You should just Unwrap it instead anyway

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
i want to tile the original collossus textures though. do you have to split it up into subobjects?

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
how did you assign multiple textures on one subobjct? or did you use multiple subobjects?

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
You do not need to have one texture per subobject.  If you're using max 7, there should be an excellent texturing tutorial in your program to help you get started.  If you prefer to get advice from HLP members, then this link should get you started:

It is pretty image intensive, but very well done.  Don't know why it isn't stickied, myself....

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
well, it does only have 712 polys...but adding more would make it look like a deimos/collosus/hecate hybrid.

Re: hopping on the modeling bandwagon
I think the model looks fine -- while it is not as detailed as most HTL models, it doesn't necessarily have to be. As for the armament, do whatever you like -- after all, the model overall is your unique idea to play with as you see fit. Experiment, have fun, and don't be afraid to make something downright weird if you want to. :)
