I figure its likely someone here does, given the demographics.

I just started about a month ago, I am enjoying it despite the fact it is excercise and a sport.

Does anyone else here fence foil, epee or saber?

I fence. Because I have to help my father on it. :blah:

Do you know anyone who fences and also shoots handguns? I think we'll start doing electric in the fall, and that implies I should get a pistol grip. I am just worried about what that will do to my pistol shooting muscle memory.

If by fence, you mean "buy or sell stolen goods", then yes.  Although i think the sport would be interesting, don't hear about it much in the States though.

Inquisitor, what do you mean by "start doing electric"? And when I get to college they have a fencing club there, so I've been thinking of joining that :)

My older sister was on the Fencing team at the University of Michigan, but they don't have a team where she is now for grad school. She still has a saber, though. With a PVC pipe sheath.

Electric blades, its how they score real bouts.

Mobius: Do the pistol grips interfere with your handgun shooting? Muscle memory is a big deal for me, and learning one way to hold something seems like it gets in the way of holding similar things.

And changing my pistol habits could prove fatal ;)

I do. I'm kind of surprised our area has a fencing club, considering how small it is, but we do. I've come out on top in a few competitions, but our club is so small we have basically 2 epees, and a single saber. We have a set of (low cost) electrical equipment, about 4 electrical jackets... you get the idea. The competitions were in a considerably larger city, of course.

i preferred when, after the meeting, we would go around campus and have impromptu fewer-rules fencing matches, with obstacles, stairs, small walls, hills and such.

then some retard called it in as a knife fight and we weren't allowed to do it anymore.

I took some lessons about three years ago with the intention of joining a club, but I already had too much going on in my life. I remember most of the things I learned, and I plan on joining the fencing club when I return to university life later this month.

I've done both, but not at the same point in my life. Haven't fenced properly in years, don't even have a proper blade for it anymore. (Civil War cavalry sabre is not a fencing weapon, it would snap one in half.) I never had formal training; but being the son of a Naval Academy fencing champion it was difficult not to pick something up.

That depends on what is meant by "fencing". But let's say I handle sabres and two sided swords (what's your term for it?) time by time. But I prefer long stick or short sticks.

I mean specfically Foil and Epee, like in the Olympics.

http://www.fencing.net

Only been doing it for about a month. I needed to do something to not die of being old and fat, and a gym membership sounded so mundane.

My friend Abbey Troup went to the Canada games. I am pretty sure that it was foil (A rapier).

I actually just spent 2 weeks tearing down old barbed-wire fence and putting up new barbed-wire fence. I'm very good at fencing, seeing as I put up several miles of fence. I got $460 and several large cuts.

Are you being sarcastic or do actually not know that we're talking about sword fighting?
