Only admins are allowed to back up the HLP?...  Why is this?    Is it dangerous?    I downloaded Java SMF backup from SMF, and it won't let me update HLP.

it tries to download the database; every post including ones you dnt have access to, peoples personal info, and probably their encrypted passwords. Theres a damn good reason its admins only.

Yes it's unfair how people want their IP addresses to remain private and unhacked.  Totally unacceptable. It's horrible that people can work on their project without seeing their "secret" ship in 13 other campaigns before it's even announced to the public that they have the ship. (sarcasm)




Aken, I'll be honest with you: that was the dumbest thing I've heard all month. There was this one thing earlier that pissed me off quite a bit here (hopefully the mods will take care of that, though), but this totally tops that one in stupidity. Ah.  That explains it then.  Hmm, so, do most of the admins back this up on their compys?  The server backup wouldn't do much good if the entire host went up in smoke.

They back up everything weekly, because it always happens right when i feel like browsing the forums and suddenly i cant

Well, I know about that, I've been hit by it too, but I was under the impression that that was the server backing itself up, which does no good if it's backed up to the same physical location.  Besides, it takes like 15 mins to backup, and the prog I was trying out has "backup every 2 hours" as the default, so I'm assuming it either doesn't interrupt service, or does so very briefly.  Do any of the admins know of this program?

I see two possible solutions.

1. Learn to exercise some self restraint and don't post when you know you'll be unable to prevent stupidity.
2. Continue to annoy people and have your ability to post at all revoked.

Right now you're pretty close to getting the latter one anyway unless I start seeing a lot more of the former.

Oh and while I'm at it ask Takashi what happened to him on Game-Warden as a result of his policy of deleting responses where he'd been stupid.
