The narrator in the fs2 intro...
Is it supposed to be Bosch? (The voice doesn't sound quite the same though)

I just listened to it again with that as a theory, and it really makes a lot of sense that it would be Bosch... I'm surprised I never thought of that before.

The "cities with spires that reached to the heavens sun" would be Babel (Etamnanki), and the new alliance, despite the picture of terrans and vasudans, would be with the shivans...

Is this already known, or am I proposing a drastically different and original interpretation?

Think about it, if it's a new idea for you, and tell me what you all think.

Edit: I had just theorized (after posting) that it might have been a young Bosch, but that doesn't work since he starts by saying "32 years have passed..."

Edit: Fixed misquote of the narration.

I always thought it was just some random dude.

I would test your theory, but I'm at school and don't have access to FS. It defanitly sounds plausible, though.

Re: The narrator in the fs2 intro...
Well, yes, so did I. Until I had this theory and decided to hold it to the proverbial fire and see if it burned, that is. And it didn't. The only inconsistency I can see right away is the voice, and that could have been a late/poor decision by the producers/directors/whatevertheyare.

Edit: If this were true, it would also (possibly) suggest that Bosch not only knew about how to communicate with the Shivans, but that he also knew about the Sathanas supernova weapon (maybe): "...saw in the embers of dying stars the salvation of their race"

Just another idea I'm throwing out there. I always wondered about that line (well, after playing through maybe twice first).

It could also be possible that the intro narrative is a flash-forward to when Bosch, Gibson, Sarno, and about a dozen others are taken aboard the Azrael, if he indeed did not know about the Sathani beforehand.

I know this will sound weird, because the guy was dead, but I thought it was the pilot of the Herc that the intro centers on.

Re: The narrator in the fs2 intro...
@Foster: Um... See, that doesn't quite work.

@All: Another thing: was Bosch aware of the existence of the Colossus before it was deployed? I remember playing Homesick and there's this one mission where they talk about grossly exaggerated rumors of Project Colossus, but I can't determine for certain whether or not in canon FS2 the "Classified" status in the Colossus cutscene actually meant anything, or if the Colossus was known about beforehand. I certainly would think that any project inaugurated by the Vasudan Emperor would have been the talk of the galaxy, so to speak. Is it not possible that the rebel saboteurs were placed there early on?

I think it would be foolish to think that Bosch didn't know something about the  Colossus, everyone has their spies, I'm sure someone caught wind of it.  You can't hide something like that very easily.  As far as it being Bosch, I think I always thought it sounded familiar, like it wasn't the only time in the campaign you hear that voice.

Re: The narrator in the fs2 intro...
Hm... it might be the same voice actor, but it seems very different... less gravelly. However, the actor might have more than one voice he can do, like all the voice actors for shows like The Simpsons.

I talked to someone on IM and he says that in the German version they have different voices too.

Maybe it was deliberate on the part of Volition/Interplay: maybe they meant to make the fact they are the same person subtle, either to make it more astonishing when you find out how much he knew, or maybe it was going to be kept relatively hush so that they could do something with it in the planned and cancelled FS3?

I don't want to start a whole FS3 discussion here, I'm just providing yet another theory that would go along with and partially explain the Bosch as narrator theory.

Edit: Can I get some confirmation on whether it was the same voice actor?

Edit: My source for info about the German version says in that it was 'definitely not' the same voice actor.

i think i remember daveb or some other person over at :v: say that the story line behind fs3 was done and safely locked inside the volition vault. anyway there were loose plot ends because :v: clearly wanted to do an fs3 at the time. anything we come up with will be pure speculation in compairison to what is actually written in the vault.

Wasn't Ronny Cox voice of Bosch and Stephen Baldwin the narrator in the intro?

Yep, Ronnie Cox as Bosch.

I'm pretty sure it was Steven Baldwin in the intro (I know he did to voice acting for FS2)...

Re: The narrator in the fs2 intro...
Well, the voice actors being the same was just a hypothetical which was not critical to the theory.

Does anyone see any contradictions in what he says? I know the voices are a bit of a blow to the idea of it being Bosch, but...

And also, like I said, it can't be "young Bosch" because the first thing he says is "Thirty two years have passed..."

Another thing I just noticed... he says "Now we form (forge?) a new alliance...", not "32 years ago we made an alliance with the Vasudans"

Any additional thoughts on this matter?

That intro is full of bugs...we can't waste time with nonsense. I hard believe it was a young Bosch. He's already supposed to be the main character of Silent Threat, come on...

Kurtwood Smith voiced Aken Bosch and I think it was either one of the Baldwins or Ray Liotta who voiced the Intro.

@Paladin1: We already answered that. Congrats on not reading the posts above you.

@Mobius: Yes, there were some poor quality things in the intro (like the Medusa getting hit by that missile and breaking into pieces, wtf?) or the pixelated explosion from the Orion getting pierced by that beam, but that doesn't have any bearing on who the narrator was.

I'm not going to fight to the death on this issue, but the argument 'the intro is full of bugs' is almost like an ad hominem, except your attacking the other aspects of the movie instead of the issue I am trying to discuss.

It's 'fanon' with a decent basis though, mostly being that Bosch states that he was a GTI pilot during the Great War. The events of ST could definitely lead such a person to ask the questions that led down the path that Bosch took.

Re: The narrator in the fs2 intro...
About the whole "Did Bosch know about the Colossus beforehand?" thing. It would seem likely, considering that Bosch indeed was an admiral, a high ranking officer. Admirals know stuff, you know? Also the fact that the Colossus was in production for 20 years, whereas the NTF rebellion raged for, what, 1,5 years (sorry, can't remember the exact numbers). Therefore we could assume that Bosch knew about the Colossus and was able to deploy spies on board it, possibly even before the rebellion officially started. Right?

That is the exact number. 18 months at the start of FS2. :)

Another thing I just noticed... he says "Now we form (forge?) a new alliance...", not "32 years ago we made an alliance with the Vasudans"

Poetic language. Nothing more. The alliance with the Vasudans is still being forged after all. The officer exchange program seems quite new and the Colossus is the only vessel with a joint Terran and Vasudan crew.
