I just got Blender, (it's pretty confusing) and I was wondering what else I need to become a good modder (besides experience).  I also have the mod tools that came in Turrey's installer.  If there is a better program than blender that is free please don't hesitate to point it out.  Also, how do I get to the models that came with FS2 Open, such as the Fenneris, Aeolus, ect.  Any help would be appreciated.

There quite a many different 3D modelling tools out there.. Some of them are free like Blender, Wings 3D, old TrueSpace 3.2 (you'll probably need TS 32 any way) etc. But you should really just choose the one you like the most regardless of which one is actually 'the best'.

As for converting the FreeSpace 2 models.. First grab a copy of PCS and of course VPView (or other VP tool). Extract the pof file(s) in question some where and start PCS. If you are using the old PCS 1.xx kill the rendering window and then open the model file. Select 'POF to COB' under 'Conversion' from the top bar. And then you have the model in TrueSpace format. And there you can start converting it into other formats as needed.

If you have modelview you might find it easier to use that for picking out single .pof files. Simply click on the edit pof button and it will tell you that you have to save the model first.

How do i get truespace 3.2?  At the website all they have are the new ones and they're definitely not free.
