Derek Smart is having a load of bliss in his own fart perfume right now (he's sealed in an airtight room right now farting). That's why we haven't heard from him in a long time. You wonder why he's an asshole (what was that city in southpark where people were farting into wine glasses and that cloud layer of smug destroyed the city?).

Looking at all of the FS3 controversy, the Avault thread, and his website, I must say that he is the biggest ass I have ever seen. I wish I was here for the FS3 thread. :blah: The was he insulted Aldo, and the rest of the HLPers on Avault even thought they were perfectly reasonable.
Gettin' back to dodgin' lasers.

Speaking about kicking ass. If there wasn't a law or something, I'd put together a group to go and beat the hell out of this dude. And possibly burn his house down... nah, that'd be a waste of resources.

Or at the very least, if I knew where he lived, I'd move somewhere close by, followed by going there and sticking bananas 'n stuff into the exhaust pipe of his car on a daily basis. Or maybe I could deliver defunct Coke machines right on his doorstep. That'd be... dumb, I know, but still. Stupid humour is still humour.

I sometimes wonder how he manages to remain in business. Are his games actually commercial successes? Who publishes them? And are they one man shows or does he have other developers working under him?

Wikipedia seems to suggest some publishers but the question remains: why the hell? If I've understood correctly, during the last 18 years he has made the same game 5 times. And people buy it! Why? Are there really so many people who like space games where you're thrown somewhere in the known universe with the objective 'Do something'?

Oh, and in the 'Derek Smart wants to develop...' thread he stated that he has a team. That must've been a historical moment. Usually it's just he who is making the games.
