Well Done! A small problem, though...
First off, my hats are off to the people who took the time and energy to work on Freespace 2 SCP. I've had the original retail game from back in 2000 and swore to never get rid of it (I had actually purchased the game in a bargain bin for...wait for it...5 bucks!). I was a little leery about downloading a user-generated mod or upgrade because I always hear stories about how unstable they are and some odd glitches here and there. I'm happy to say that my FSO has been very stable and only saw a couple of problems. One was the odd naming of a subsystem for the Sathanas (AAA Beam cannon instead of forward beam cannon). This is not a big deal to me.

The other problem, however, is a little more difficult to deal with. In only a couple of nebula missions, the speed of the game actually goes way up (about double). I can't remember the first nebula mission I experienced this in (probably the stealth fighter test). I CAN tell you that the mission I am in now, which is locating and then protecting the Iceni and transport from those dastardly Shivans, definitely has the speed problem. I don't crash or anything, but the game moves way too fast for me to be able to complete it properly. It's hell on trying to stay on a Shivan's tail in this manner, too.

My computer specs are as follows:

NVIDIA 680i SLi Motherboard
2 GB RAM
2 GeForce 7600 GT Vid Cards (Latest drivers, of course)
Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ (EE6600)

I doubt my computer has anything to do with it since most of the nebula missions played out fine at normal speed.

I did a search for this problem in the forums, by the way, and couldn't really find much, so here's my post.

Again folks, well done!

When playing the mission, make sure it says x1 in the bottom right corner, below the mission time. If it says anything else, that's the problem.

why would an SCP error be considered as news? :wtf: *smacks Cobra*It's a feature.

which you can fix by holding shift and the comma.  Also, if it does say 1x, you can enable cheats (www.freespace2.com) and hold shift and press comma to slow it down to .5 speed.  That could be a quick fix.

Re: Well Done! A small problem, though...
OK, I went back to the game and it said 1x, but this time, it actually played at normal speed. Maybe I sped it up to 2x by accident in a couple of missions? Is this a glitch that's happened before?

In any case, thanks for pointing me the right direction and the solution to resolve it should I have that problem again. Seems I inadvertently fixed it by quitting the game and trying it again the next day.

By the way Turey, massive thanks and kudos for your installation program, worked like a charm.

Re: Well Done! A small problem, though...
Hum aside from possible accidental time compression and the possibility that the problem might have already fixed itself... I used to have problems with I've Found Her (a B5 space simulator) and processor power saving modes changing the speed of the simulation because the game didn't for some reason deal well with changing processor clocks...

Is it even remotely possible that something similar might happen with some processor/MOBO/driver/stuff/power saving mode combination with FS2_Open?
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

The most likely explanation is simply that he turned time compression on by accident. It's pretty easy to do if you change weapons and missiles using the keyboard.

Let's not worry too much about esoteric possibilities until we're ruled out the really obvious one.

Re: Well Done! A small problem, though...
Muchas gracias!

You know what? I'm almost 100% positive that I accidentally bumped up the time compression, especially when karajorma mentioned switching weapons on the keyboard. A couple of times I tried to "double-fire" the guns without realizing that I only needed to hit the period button a couple of times. For double-fire MISSILE mode, however, that's the shift and slash key. Therein lies the easy mistake.

Thanks.
