beam-free-all alternate question...
is there any mods or any other way for non-scp fs2 that can enable beam-free-all for default(like the ability in scp), or enable "beam-free all" for the entire wing of capships, if i made a group of capships into a wing that respawn every x secs. cause regular fs2 can't do that as you all know, and if i put beam-free all event, it only work for the specific ship only until its dead/destroyed. don't ask me to put shivan superlaser on instead. cause its not as colorful as regular beam weapon(plus i love beam cannon sounds!!!).

if your asking why not to stick to scp, i can't... i'm running on a old pc, and scp's requirement is too too high. even running on near lowest graphic set up will often cause scp to freeze and that gets annoying.

:welcomesilver:

Welcome to the HLPBB!!! :D

As far as I know, you can have that effect only with FS Open. Warships weren't even supposed to be grouped in wings, that's probably why :v: didn't create the SEXP or setting you're looking for :)

Re: beam-free-all alternate question...
so fred 2 have no way to solve my problem other than fs2 open fred 2...
then is there a mod that can have this same result? like sum sort of mod that change beam to have same behavior like flak or turrets or shivan superlaser, since they fire automatically on default instead of using an event.

and u ask why i group warships... well i like to have fun... right? everyone likes to. i mean who wouldn't like wave after wave of cruisers jumping in and blast each other w/ beams???

Not if you want the ships in wings. All the cool FRED tricks you could use in Open won't work in retail. Even using string variables for the ship names.

ahh i'm not really understanding wut you just said. other than scp have those "super-fun" functions. like changing/modifying files still cannot change any regular beam weapon to shoot like shivan superlaser? i mean it shoot automatically at any capships only, and it does not need any event triggers.

Re: beam-free-all alternate question...
I meant you can't have beams work. I thought string variables might let you but I remembered that they were broken in retail and next to useless.

If you mod in a shivan superlaser then yeah, that will work. It will look pretty fugly in comparison with normal beams though.

Only download the mv_core.vp and executables & Launcher... :) Eh, actually, guys, does he even need the mv_core.vp?  AFAIK, SCP without any extras has less requirements than Retail.  (source: taylor, IIRC.)

Oh, and DO NOT use D3D, instead use Open GL... just leave all settings to default and you should be fine.

Re: beam-free-all alternate question...
The SCP does have higher requirements than retail AFAIK even with everything turned off.

I'm not certain however if you could get the game to run on very low end machines if you run with the -nohtl flag. It's a question of whether all the changes made by adding new features has been balanced out by changes caused by going dynamic with other stuff.

Re: beam-free-all alternate question...
Well, what exactly are the system specs?  I've run FSO 3.6.7 on a Socket 7 mobo, with 83 MHz FSB (overclocked to get that), 500MHz AMD K6-2, 256 MB 60 ns system RAM, BFG 5500 OC 256MB PCI GFX card.  With mediavps!!!  :p  Runs at like 15 FPS, but hey, it runs... and if I shut everything off... it'd prolly run about normal Retail speed.

Re: beam-free-all alternate question...
maybe u dl the older version of scp... i dl mine 2 years ago and its requirement is pretty high. i mean if ur RAM is only 256, then i'm sure ur running older version one, cause i have 500+ RAM. currently running on minimum resolution, and everything else is set to very low, the game still freezes after few min. (then again, i have a intergrated graphics card... could be the reason though...)

and i can't modify a file to let beam fire any day like laser turret\flak\missile launchers? cause i think ur thinking that there is no way i can make beam-free all default using fred 2 alone. i'm currently asking if there's a mod thats avalible to allow beam to fire on their freewill for non-scp fs2, you know, one of those vps files(well every mod i dl have those file... guess those are the modded files or add-on files or wut ever...  :)). I'm now not asking for way to do it using fred 2 since that's impossible w/ non-scp fs2.

Notice the ridiculously overpowered graphics card? Most old systems wouldn't have a card like that in them and its the graphics card that is usually the limiting factor in the game.

A Geforce FX 5500 is not a ridiculously overpowered card :p In fact it's really lackluster these days.

It's overpowered in comparison with the rest of the machine. Hell it has as much ram as the system does. And probably a faster kind too!

Phhh. GeForce FX5500 is a ridiculously overpowered card... it actually supports pixel shadder and has 256 MB RAM and support DirectX 9 ! For me that's absolute, positive ownage.

I have only a poor GeForce 4 MX 64 MB RAM, and yet I'm capable of playing FSO with rather good graphics and HTL models (beams were a problem, but I found a loooong time ago a more efficient version of those). Guess RAM (512 here) and proccessor (Atlhon 2200+) are far more important that gfx card.

Re: beam-free-all alternate question...
Hmm... yeah, that is a halfway decent card.  But it's not that uber.  You can get it at Wal-Mart...  $40 clearance, IIRC.  EDIT: well ofc now you can't get it at Wal-Mart, I meant that's where I got mine.  newegg has them.
