seeking suggestions on how to learn
Hi everyone,

for several years now, everyone here has been very very helpful and kind from me, from the headmaster, to Goober and on to everyone....and i want to try to learn to be able to give back.

i have secured 3DMax, Maya 7.0, Bryce, Blender, Poser and some other programs like SketchUp, and want to learn to make and skin models, i see there is a tut on texturing which i would like to start with, and woudl very much appreciae any suggestoins on probrams that will help me do this, and or tutuorials to help as well. I am a 2D artist, so can do the creative part, i am pretty sure but will need to learn the basics of the modeling and alpha channels, etc. and all the tecnicnical things. i have some time as i had to take time off my day job due to a problems with my recovery from bone cancer, and a new operation which i will have to have nexst week, and will be home with time over the immediate future. i have FS1, 2 and the full install of SCP and the media VP's etc plus quite a few of the add on campaigns....so i have some of the mateirals to study and learn from.  but i have almost everything to learn, but i am willing and really want to try to help ijn return for the great help and kindess from you all. any suggestoins will be greately appreciatee. thanks
chris

Re: seeking suggestions on how to learn
One thing that that I found hard at the beginning was the jumping back and forth from 2d to 3d. This was because it was hard to visualize what an alteration in a 2d image looked on the model. Now I just paint directly on the model (fighters) and then tidy it up in a paint program. Painting lines in 3d dosen't work well.

Being able to unwrap a model is a bonus skill. It allows you to texture as you like, taking care of texture distortions as needed..

Most of the important skills you already have, what's missing are just technical skills.

( And if you are not boored with trees, hills and stuff there are FS mods that can use those skills...  ;)
