Re: Blocky laser renderings
I have a similar problem with the Babylon Project, Weapon effects and smoke effects from damaged fighters etc, they all have black blocks around the effect!

Re: Blocky laser renderings
I'll finish the downloading of my vid card drivers this weekend (getting WildBlue Satellite Internet..WOOHOO!!!!). I kinda figure now it might be an issue on my end on this cpu. Never had a problem on my previous cpu (its sitting in storage atm). One thing I haven't tried is setting affinity for FSO. I got a dual core so I'm gonna see if its a simple compatibility glitch. I got some games that don't run quite as smooth or otherwise as well when I select only 1 cpu instead of both.

EDIT: Affinity had no effect. I have some other ideas that MIGHT work.

Note: Photoshop is out of the question. I don't have the 100...200 or more to afford the program. I'd prob be lost in understanding how to use it...last time I used it was back in photography class in high school.

Re: Blocky laser renderings
I think I got it. With some tinkering with the weapons.tbl I narrowed it down to the Bitmap and Glow placement. I used the MV glow but stock FS2 bitmap...it worked, and though the black boxes were no longer there, they still didnt look right. Out of curiosity I put the tbl weapons in question back to their original MV status, and disabled jpg/tga textures (this never had a problem on previous cpu...a driver update might fix this)...now the black boxes are gone with that feature turned off. Soon as I can I'll get my video card updated and hopefully that SHOULD fix my problem.

Re: Blocky laser renderings
Since you said Photoshop is not an option, jr2 politely recommended Paint.NET, which happens to be a decent enough graphics program. Most importantly, it's free.

Re: Blocky laser renderings
Yeah, unless you want to go really advanced.. then you can use the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)
