mediavps: textures broken
I first installed FSO on a laptop with a Radeon Mobility X700 graphics card. It ran perfectly fine there.

Now, I copied it to a desktop with an NVIDIA 8800GTX. When using the mediavps mod, the textures of most ships are not mapped correctly. This apparently only happens to the base texture, since the glow/specular/envmap textures are mapped correctly.

It looks horrible. Any way to fix this?

Do you have jpg and tga textures turned on from the launcher's feature tab?

Yep, it's on. I tried a lot of settings.

I tried versions 3.6.9, 3.6.10-20071007T, 3.6.10-20071028T, and a build from 2007-11-23. They all show the same problem.

A fast guess. You are using 169.xx ForceWare version. These drivers are defective. Move down to official 163.75 (and suffer a slower Crysis BTW).

IF YOU HAVE TROUBLES WITH FS2:
  • Please, please, please, READ and UNDERSTAND the sticky threads in FreeSpace & FreeSpace Open Support board.
A lot of people are willing to help you, but, as anyone can understand, seeing the very same "issues" repeated again and again can become quite depressing. Please, spend a bit of time trying to solve the issue by yourself.
    (Lobo deserves a monument).
  • Then, if you aren't still able to solve your issue, feel free to ask for help in that same board.
FYI, most of the troubles are caused by wrong mod installations which lead to either missing data or undesired cross-effects between them. Always follow the mod installation instructions and keep a clean FS2 installation as explained in the sticky threads. Two additional links about how the game handles game data:
  • If you think that you've discovered a bug, mantis it.
Provide as much info as you can, and try to narrow it down. A lonely "FS2 doesn't work" is not a good report.

Re: mediavps: textures broken
I'm indeed using a 169 Forceware. I guess your guess is right. :) Thanks.

I'll downgrade my drivers ASAP.

edit: Downgrading to 163.75 fixed it.
