So there's this anime club I go to here at A&M and over the past three semesters we watched FMP and 2nd Raid. I loved it, it was a nice blend of hardcore mech action and comedy where neither of the two aspects detracted from the other. Great characters, relatively realistic mechs, a kick-A submarine, all around fun stuff.
So why did 2nd Raid have to fail so hard?
It started off strong and felt like it would be a lot darker, and for a while it was what with the creepy twincest pilot chicks and that crazy guy and the violence being ramped up overall. It had one of the coolest car chases I've seen in a long while and even has Chidori doing her share of butt-kicking (in her underwear no less). Then Sousuke decides to wimp out and things slow way down and it gets to the end, which was kind of cool but felt rushed, like they should have stretched it out to a few more episodes to replace some of the slower ones so they could build up the ending more, like the first season did with the submarine hijacking and all.
Having said all this, I'm not even sure what I'm complaining about. Some cool stuff happened, but it feels like they took longer to get to it in fewer episodes. It's like the cool stuff in the first season was cooler and happened more often. I guess what I'm saying is there weren't enough mech battles and
nothing will ever top Gauron getting launched off the steam catapults right before his AS self-destructs.
