Being a native Russian has its merits although I am a bit offended by the way we are portrayed in games.
Well if I must have bad guys, I prefer Russians over Swedes. And I meant that as a compliment for Russians. Russians are also more impressive as bad guys than americans are as good guys, both in games and movies. Americans as bad guys on the other hand, is more scary than cool.
In CoD4, I think Russians end as pretty good good guys. They end up saving the player (with style) at the end, and considering what happened to the other player character, the whole scene actually holds the players interest. And since its the end of the game, most players remember that "yes, Russians saved me and mopped up the bad guys I didn't bother to shoot"
I find the way Americans are portrayed in CoD4 demeaning and inappropriate.
As non-yank, I don't know where you got the demeaning and inappropriate. I thought they acted as they always have, overconfident and arrogant. Thought now as I think about it, I think Snail has a point. But let the records show that Snail said it, not I...
About time americans got their asses kicked anyway. And I think it served to game pretty well, because I doubt many expected that to happen...
