If I had loads of money to get a car I'd buy something simple and inconspicious (like a Ford Focus) to get around in and buy something totally lunatic (like I dunno, a Lotus Exige?) for track days, high-days and holidays.

I'm a bit pissy with Ford re the focus. They've not shipped enough XR-5s (Turbocharged sporty version of the standard hatch, supposed to be as good or better than the tricked out VW i.e. probably the best hot hatch in Australia, certainly on value-for-money terms) to Australia, so there's a waiting list, and by the time one comes available for me o buy, I'll probably be back at Uni earning crap money again and unable to afford it. It's the first car to tempt me away from the XR-6 Turbo since... ever and I can't friggen get one. Bastards.

QFT. I've never understood these gas guzzling penis replacements. For me, if a car has four wheels, goes forward and backward, turns and is economical, I'm more than happy. And since I usually drive in the city, when I actually even drive, I really have no need for a car that accelerates to 100km/h in two seconds and has a top speed of 280km/h or something along those lines.

Then the Cadillac CTS-V isn't for you.  What you want is more akin to what a car like the Corolla is well known for and for the vast majority of people thats perfect. A point A to B car that does the job without too much fuss.  For some people they want something a little different and thus a car that has a fair bit of power is what does it for them.

Personally I'm more in your camp...partly by necessity but that doesn't downplay the fact that other people want to have things a little differently.  The oil is going to run out one way or another and the 1% of exotics and maybe 5% of high performance vehicles aren't going to make a huge difference.  In the future those people will need to be buying, like everyone else, something that runs on an alternative fuel....but they will still opt for the more powerful one

but 50mph wrong ? i really cant see it doing over 227.25mph (the speed it has to beat)
