No, this is in no way connected to jr2's brother's song, I just so happened to have just finished this one.

Black Plains

@Darklord42: Patience :P

You continue to amaze me blackhole... :yes2: :)

Do you mind if people use your songs in FS2 mods? They are simply terrific!

Thank you!  :D And sure, people can use my tracks wherever they want as long as they credit me somehow.

This was not made for wasting aliens and will remain so :P

We should have a music maker badge for this kind of stuff!
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

:wtf:  I wasn't asking for you to change this track.  I was asking for a new one.  Just to be clear.  :p

Well, if you want upbeat, you don't get much crazier then this song.

I find it harder to do music for games (FS2 specifically) than for normal songs for listening to. Joshua II was actually the first one I did specifically for a game, after years of making techno music. Whereas blackhole seems to be able to do so right off the bat :)

Is there any particular thing that differentiates game music from normal listening music?

I seem to have the opposite problem - Its far easier for me to make video game music then it is music for listening to.

There seems to be minor subtleties to how video game music is constructed compared to normal songs, but I'm not really sure what it is.

simple. No lyrics :P

Never liked them much anyway. Some guy yelling around to a song sounds like it ruins it to me.

That all depends on the lyrics. if its just someone shouting the same thing over and over again, then yeah i can understand

I find it's balance.

I hate songs where the music is just a backdrop to the lyrics. I like songs where the lyrics are just one piece of it, and it is possible to hear the subtleties of the music along with the lyrics.

I do usually avoid lyric-ed songs, though. Instrumental songs are in general superior musically.

This seems upbeat enough to me...certainly not downcast.

For wasting aliens he has that Openlancer one somewhere still...I used it for Star Control 2 since the music there didn't work.

Actually, i think the distinction between video game song and real song is more subtle.

A real song for listening to has a lot it needs to accomplish. It needs to bring the listener in with a nice tune, and more importantly, it must support itself with insturments to give a full texture. A video game song, however, often has fewer insturments, relies more on melodies, and in the cases of modern video game music, often has reverb or some kind of ambience applied to it. Heavy use of reverb (which many of my songs do, because, well, I like reverb <_<) seems to create a sense of actually being inside the music, which in the case of a video game translates to being inside the video game.

Or I could be completely wrong :P

so i could use this as a game song?

In my book, yup. As long as it fits with the action at hand.

I mean, hey, they have music exactly like that in ut2004 :P

Some songs with lyrics do work really well in games though. The 3D Sonic games pulled off some fantastic final bosses to songs with lyrics. (Say what you will about the quality of the games in general; I think their soundtracks have always been excellent.)
